at first I hesitated to post this because Texas Football is notoriously inaccurate in their commitment lists but now I have some info that it might be true. DE Regaie Johnson of LaMarque has been committed to Northwestern since December. Now he is listed as an SMU commit by Texas Football according to a February 1, 2004 article about the 9-11 LaMarque athletes who will sign Division 1A scholarships. I've been familiar with Johnson since December but never really focused on him because he was committed to Northwestern. Got these numbers from Max Emfinger's site-6-2, 228 and ran 4.38 40 yard dashes at a summer camp-Rivals confirms great speed at 4.42 WOW! It gets better-he is an outstanding student-Rivals says 3.92 and 950 SAT -Emfinger says 4.0. Then I noticed that in his interview Emfinger states that Johnson said he WAS NO LONGER COMMITTED to Northwestern and big boys from across the country had gotten involved after the State Championship. Rivals has not updated Johnson since after Emfinger's report that he was no longer committed to Northwestern. Remember the starters at LaMarque rarely played into the 3rd Quater but he had 51 solos, 21 QB pressures, 9 sacks. He was named 2nd Team All-Greater Houston and First Team All-District. Emfinger calls him not only a sleeper but one of the best prospects in Texas and a national recruit(I know Emfinger sucks) but if those height, weight and speed reports are true then SMU may have pulled off a huge coup. Emfinger has Johnson as the No. 12 Rush DE in the Country next to big time recruits like Adam Blackenship(Nebraska) and Michael Tate(Arkansas). Anybody got some additional confirmation? I wouldn't count it as true until its confirmed.

I hope this works out. Man, could we use this guy.

I would like nothing better than to see this happen. And I'm not challenging Stallion -- he's usually very accurate in his reports. But I've poked around and have not found anything along these lines. I'm going to be extremely cautious with my optimism on this.

well here's a little more smoke-Northwestern's Rivals board has a summary of each Northwestern recruit as of Sunday and the poster mentioned that he's heard also that Johnson is now is considering other offers including Notre Dame. And that's 2 months after his commitment. We'll see-could just be a typical Texas Football mistake. We do know that SMU made a big push for LaMarque kids including Wilton McCray(SMU commitment), Williams(who decided between Tech and SMU) and Jamael Dickerson(who stated yesterday that SMU was holding a scholarship to see if he can get a qualifying ACT score).

Yeah, that would be cool. But I'm afraid the only Johnson we're signing Wednesday is LaCori.

Did he sign with Northwestern after all? If not, I hold out hope.
