We actually had one player make it to the Majors I think. Kris Silverthorn who also played Football. I remember a double header against UT and I think they threw James Street (who threw a no hitter) and I think Burt Hooten in about 1970. We sucked though generally finishing last or next to last

Interesting discussion. Some of you guys know your stuff.

I guess some of these fellows might know if it is a real jersey.

No, it was the early-1980's. They mentioned it when SMU cancelled track. It was definitely the 1980's. JT, if it wasn't you saying it, I would swear it was 1986.

I was rolling the dice a little because I knwe it was pre-83.

If I can figure out where my old Rotunda is, I can check the pictures from my era (68-72), but right now my mind will not recall where I placed it last.

The bio of Larry Long on the alumni list that Special Delivery posted says he made All SWC at Texas in 1981 after transferring from SMU after we dropped baseball in 1980.

SMU HISTORY QUESTION FOR THE SMU "EXPERTS"

Postby panhandle_pony » Fri Apr 03, 2009 9:52 pm

Up until a few years ago, when it mysteriously disappeared, I was the proud owner of an SMU baseball jersey, circa 1968. Somehow it showed up in my frat house room behind Armstrong field and I lugged it around the country for years. The jersey was a very, very heavy flannel and it generally matched the picture; however, the "mustangs" script coloring was a dark "red" color. Wish I still had it. If your jersey is not flannel, my bet is that it is a 70's vintage.

I was at SMU in the mid 50's. We had a pitcher named Malcom Bauer. He played in the Big League, but I don't remember which team. The Athletic Dorm was just north of Armstrong Field beside the SAE house. All Scholarship Athletes stayed there. Baseball was a significant sport in the Southwest Conference.

I still think it's a club team jersey. If one were to find a jersey from the early 80s, college and pro baseball teams were not yet into the throwback button down look, which came around when the Orioles opened Camden yards and the Braves followed suit. For jersey styles in the early 80s, think Houston Astros rainbow jerseys. Pullover v-neck.

That's what I remember. I think we had a perfect record that year.
An 0-fer.

It's not a 76 uniform. It had pin stripes with "Mustangs" in Dodgers script
style with underlining swoosh in my Rotunda.
