McCoy isn't leaving SMU.... but he IS leaving the basketball team.
McCoy is going to be playing football this year. Jones thinks his ball-handling will translate well to the WR position. Apparently this has been a possibility from the beginning, when Jones helped bring McCoy to SMU. McCoy just wasn't sure until now that he wanted to go into football.

Ditto. Wouldn't it have been nice/better if he had participated in spring ball? Or is he going to join us from the summer?

That shouldn't preclude him from playing hoops. Other schools have had football players play basketball after the football season was over.

Doesn't that mean that his athletic scholarship has to be a football scholarship in order to avoid breaking NCAA rules? If so, is this another scholarship open for basketball?

if this is true as soon as he walks on the football field it will be counted as a Football Scholarship-BUT I thought McCoy was considered a Top CB prospect rather than WR.

I take that back. McCoy had 16 receptions for 517 yards 32.3 ypc and 11 touchdowns on offense-which is quite offensive

To my understanding he was all state as both DB and WR. Very smooth WR though.

please tell me this is a joke
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.â€- Jalen Jones

Did you mean to say offensive or impressive?

If this is, in fact, his decision, couldn't he join spring workouts right away?

This was a joke, but in retrospect is more plausible than I intended.
