A&M Recruit in trouble

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – A Texas A&M football recruit was arrested Saturday night after he and two other men allegedly robbed two women outside a Tyler department store. Quentin Gardner, a defensive back from Tyler Lee, was charged with robbery, a second-degree felony; attempted theft from a person, a Class A misdemeanor; and evading arrest, a Class B misdemeanor, said Tyler Police Public Information Officer Chris Moore.
The suspects allegedly struck one woman on the head and stole her purse and attempted to steal the purse of her companion before fleeing when witnesses intervened. Robbery, the most serious of the charges, is punishable by two to 10 years in prison. Gardner posted bail and was released from Smith County Jail on Sunday, a jail official said.
Gardner, a second-team All-State selection, signed a letter of intent with A&M last Wednesday. A letter of intent can be invalidated if a college denies admission to an athlete. A&M coach Dennis Franchione said through a spokesman that he had been out of town and was looking into the incident.

This morning's DMN also discloses that A$M kicker Todd Pegram from Plano West was arrested Sunday morning and charged with evading arrest, a Class B misdemeanor, after police alleged he ran from an officer who saw him drinking beer. Not a good day for the Aggie football team!
