Louie Swope

This recruiting forum has been pretty dead lately. So, I'll try to get something started.

I have been surprised by the dearth of information about our latest commit, Louie Swope. Is there very much information available about this prospect? I know absolutely zero about HS football, so I'd be interested in hearing thoughts about Swope from anyone who may have followed his HS career or who has insight into what level of prospect he is.

Also, I am not a Rivals subscriber, but I did see the blurb about Florida RB Darion Hall. Looks like he has some legit offers. Anyone have any insight into this prospect and his interest in SMU?

Swope is a very natural athlete and savvy defensive back prospect. Lacks ideal size and speed measurables but really masks his deficiencies well on film. Actually plays and projects better as a safety but lacks the size at this time to project high there; will likely start his career off as an underneath corner. Smart and disciplined in coverage. Understands zone concepts; soundly reads the quarterback, levels off and jumps the correct route. Transitions quickly underneath and closes the cushion fast. Does a good job limiting perimeter yards after the catch and is reliable openfield tackler who will come up and chop you down low. Gets off the stalk-block well and can break down as a tackler. Able to overcome his lack of great foot-speed and smooth transitional skills turning to run vertically with his good recovery quicks and proper positioning defending the pass. While he will compete for the jump-ball and shows good deep coverage awareness skills, his ability to matchup versus today's bigger more explosive college receivers is a concern. Pedal is high and a bit rigid. Struggles flipping his hips smoothly running vertically and with overall footwork at times in off-man; does not have the hips to project high as a cover corner. That said, we like Swope's underneath range and ability to find the ball quickly through perimeter traffic. Has the aggressive demeanor and a ball-hawking presence sought-after in a safety and could end up playing there once he fills out his frame and play fulltime down in the box when needed. Look for this guy to be a mainstay on special teams as well.

I was really surprised the espn scouting report kept mentioning his lack of speed. His highlights on the rivals site don't represent that. One highlight shows him taking a punt back for a TD. Coaches usually don't put the players lacking speed in that role...

he has some good competitive times in district type meets in the Relays but I haven't found the exceptional verified 100 Meters or 40 yard dash times on him. If you believe unverified times-I generally discard them especially when someone actually runs track-then I believe Rivals has him at 4.48. His brother Ryan at A&M was competive state wide in the sprints so maybe he will get there this track season. ESPN is a national recruiting site judging recruits on a Nationally competitive scale not a good enough for SMU scale. We need to readjust our scale from our prior Coach who never even bothered with the exceptional Texas Top 100 types. See 400, 800 and 1600 Relays he was involved in which are among the best at his school.

I hope that was against the wind. I can skip faster than 11.34. If his brother ran a 10.5, surely he can obliterate 11.34
