The circumstances that led to Adrian Dizer prematurely ending his career are both scary and exceptionally fortunate: in SMU's Oct. 25 game at Navy last year, Dizer broke a bone in his neck in a freak on-field accident. On one hand, the injury ended his playing career. But he also knows that it could have been much worse.
The most important element of the situation is that Dizer is healthy. He is taking part in SMU's spring practices, as a volunteer assistant to defensive line coach Bert Hill, and while he wishes he was out on the field with his former teammates, he's grateful that the effects of his injury weren't more severe or long-lasting.
Dizer visited with PonyFans.com to discuss the injury, the factors that led to his decision to end his playing career, and which relationship in his life most influenced his decision.

That's a tough situation for him to be in, but you have to love the attitude...can't play, but still a Mustang. He is certainly a lucky guy in regards to the affects of his injury. Here's wishing only good things for him in his future.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Here's to your health, Adrian.
Thanks for everything you've given, and keep giving, to SMU.
Glad you're a Mustang!

Pretty much the same thing that happened to me. God bless Hayden for letting me stay around and coach the redshirts, and continue my education.

Yeah, it is a great read, and it's this kind of story that separates this site from all others.
Adrian, you made the right decision to put your health above everything else. We'll miss you on the field this year, but you made the right call for you and your family.
I really shouldn't drink and type.

A good read about a loyal Mustang. Adrian Dizer, from the same hometown as Lonta Hobbs (former TCU running back), and.......Paladin
