The most amazing thing was watching from the stands all the typical LA Fan's cars stuck in the parking lot because they wanted to "beat traffic" and because this "Game was over". Nothing approaches that moment for pure drama in sports.
Those are great. I'm a huge Sandy Koufax fan. In fact on Mike and Mike this morning, they replayed Jack Buck's call of Gibson's Home Run.
But I like Vin Scully's call of Koufax's perfect game. "It is 9:36 pm. 2 and 2 to Harvey Kheun. One strike away. Sandy into the wind...."
There is no other like Vin Scully.

Was not in person but I recall going to my 5th grade class in elementary school in the fall of 1960. Midmorning I went to the office and told them I was sick and had my mother come to school, take me home, and set up a cot in the living room where I watched the 7th game of the Yankees/Pirates World series. Watched Bill Mazeroski hit a walk off home run in the bottom of the ninth to win it for the Pirates.
Again, not in person, but in the days of 3 channel black and white television, middle class Arkansas, day games during the week, baseball, that was about as good as it could get for a 10 year old.
Another in person event which was about as exciting as any I have ever been to, was the dual swim meet between SMU and Michigan in circa 1970 in the SMU Natatorium. SMU won by inches on the final relay against a highly ranked Michigan team. The atmosphere was amazing.

1982 Miracle on 4th Street-SMU v. Texas Tech. Sometimes Miracles do come true-and in the most desperate of times. More on the line in this game than any in SMU History with possible exception of the 1935 Miracle Bobby Wilson to Bob Finley TD catch against TCU that sent SMU to the Rose Bowl with the No. 1 ranking. It was easily the tightest, most thrilling game too with the lead going back and forth. Much more exciting (and nerve racking) game than others often cited.

Many a time. Usual on the front row (where the Cubs Catcher sets up in the bullpen). Though I have seen many a game, none have been outstanding games. I have been in the bleachers a few times which is a show by itself.

I too have been to Wrigley often, but never at night. Do not think I could bring myself to do that. It just seems wrong.

I'll have to think more on this subject later, but the game that immediately comes to my mind was the 2002 Class AAAA Quarterfinals football matchup between Kerrville Tivy and Gregory-Portland.
There wasn't an official attendance taken, but if there were, my guess was that there were approximately 35,000 people in attendance: both schools have storied programs with great followings, and the game took place at the Alamodome, which was definitely at least half full.
The game was a back-and-forth defensive battle between two of the state's greatest defensive teams. Both teams also featured a slow, methodical running attack that proved to be very effective at moving the ball.
Like I said, the game was back and forth, and the 4th quarter was entered with G-P holding a 14-10 lead. Tivy scored a TD on a 70 yard pass that caught the G-P defense off guard to take the lead, 17-14, with only about 6 minutes left in the game. G-P's offense was not the greatest quick-strike offense, either, since they employed a misdirection-style offense out of the Split T formation. Tivy fans felt that they had the game won, or at worst, the game would go into overtime.
However, G-P's offense went down the field with amazing efficiency, averaging nearly 5 yards per carry on a drive that scored a touchdown with about 2:30 left in the game. G-P led, 21-17, but Tivy was not going to be counted out just yet.
Tivy took possession and immediately drove down the field, gaining a 1st and Goal from the G-P 5 yard line with a little under a minute remaining in the game. On first down, Tivy plunged ahead to the 2 yard line, and threw an incomplete pass on second down.
With 19 seconds remaining on 3rd and Goal, Tivy tried a run up the middle with a big fullback that G-P hadn't held for less than a 3 yard gain all night. He got to about the 1/2 yard line, where he was met by 3 G-P defenders who popped the ball out of his hands, and fell on the fumble, sealing the victory for G-P, 21-17.
