It was deflating last year that SMU didn't have a scrimmage, much less a spring game. But it was made worse because the marketing dept. billed it as a scrimmage. I won't be fooled again.
And yeah, June Jones does owe it to the fans, especially after the debacle of the 2008 season. The injury excuse doesn't hold water - you've got all summer to heal.
June Jones was handed a huge contract in part to create excitement. It wouldn't impede the program's progress to have a litte fun on the final day of spring ball, and you might win over a few fans in the process.
But I suspect we'll see June Jones in a pair of socks before we'll see a true Red-Blue scrimmage.

I thought last Saturdays practice was 20 times better that the so called Red & Blue last year. Come out and support your team you won't be sorry. There is a BBQ afterwards and a garage sale before.

It's advertised as a scrimmage so let's just all hope that's what we're going to get. On a different note, this years posters advertising the Red/Blue are extremely lame and not very well-made at all. Looks like they spent all of 20 minutes just slopping on everything and decided that it looked okay. But it really doesn't.

At the risk of sounding like advertising, the answer to the "what format will Red/Blue game be" question is in the June Jones audio interview over on ponystampede (premium) for those who subscribe.

OK, this is getting a bit silly.....Obviously I understand that they conduct interviews and write/post stories that are for their subscribers only, and that is cool....but something is wrong if you have to subscribe to a pay website to find out if the game will be a true scrimmage or just a glorified practice.
It is in the interest of SMU to publicize the fact that this will be a scrimmage since so many people were put off by what happened last year......of course, maybe the answer was "glorified practice" in which case, they should keep that as quiet as possible.

I actually have been a member in the past, but membership has since lapsed, I just wasn't getting that much out of it since I am not a big follower of the recruiting process.
Was not so much a dig at the website as it was the SMU Athletic Department, they should know this is an important issue for many of their supporters and should make a public statement, if someone would come out and say "this will be a simulated scrimmage with real hitting and purpose", they would no doubt increase attendance on Saturday, I will be there either way, but I can certainly understand why supporters would want to know, if only for the reason of setting expectations.
I would imagine that most subscribers will be in attendance anyway, so June was preaching to the choir, he needs to reach out to the uncoverted.

How about this...."come and enjoy the afternoon with your friends..check out the football team...eat some bbq...and if somebody knocks the snot out of somebody else, then consider that a bonus"
