Do you believe for one second that Daniel Snyder knows how to properly gauge a players worth? He's only interested in making a big splash. And the funny thing is this; if he trades up for Sanchez, he' making a huge mistake. Sanchez is a Junior QB with a total of 16 college starts. History has shown that Junior's fail at the NFL level. Repeatedly. Ryan Leaf, Tim Couch, Andre Ware, Vince Young, Alex Smith, Scott Mitchell, Todd Marinovich...
The Redskins have no idea what they have in Colt Brennan.

I don't believe the problem is "the system". The problem we will have recruiting any 5 star regardless of position is we are not a BCS school and will never be able to play for the national championship. If you had your choice of any school in the country you would probably pick one that you thought would play for the national championship. As for the system not being a "pro system" it does not appear it is keeping Crabtree from being a top 10 draft pick. If we get into the BCS we will have a 5 star QB.

I did read your post--that isn't referring to Colt Brennan? My point was that he was NOT high profile when he went to Hawaii. Your post claims otherwise.

I do not think anyone is expecting a 5 star recruit to commit to SMU anyways...how many 5 star recruits have commited to a C-USA school since we joined? 1 I think...
How many 5 star recruits are there in the country each year??? 35? (just a guess). To think we can be getting 5 stars is ridiculous...lets work on getting those 3 stars and maybe a 4 star here and there...look at the recruiting classes of schools like TCU, BYU, Utah...

Utah had one 5 star in 2009...the year in which they won the sugar bowl. Lets win the sugar bowl, then maybe a 5 star would consider SMU

clickclack's right, it's the school more than the coach. If June Jones or Leach were at Texas, Oklahoma or even A&M, they'd get 5 star qb's all day. That being said, part of the reason is that JJ, in particular, looks for specific things they see in qb's regardless of what anyone else thinks (see BLM or Padron).
Drew Allen expressed interest in SMU & Jones but Jones was less interested in him for some reason - he ended up going to OU last year.*
*Drew Allen was a 3 star qb from San Antonio.

I could not care less if we ever send another player to the NFL, I just want some wins for SMU while they are here.
I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.

Amen to that jtstang!
June Jones doesn't need "Top Star" future NFL quarterbacks to get us to where we want to be...which is winning 7, 8, 9 games a year and playing in bowl games on a regular basis.

good example? 23 ints? GREAT EXAMPLE ZERO wins against division 1 opponents.... also a GREAT EXAMPLE
Timmy Chang had 19 his first year. But Timmy also ran a passing O in HS. Bo had 3 weeks to learn the most complicated passing system in college football. He came from an I-formation O. Dude. He will get it. Just watch his HS highlight tape.
yah the boy with a bionic arm? more like the "wacky waiving inflatable arm flailing tube man...." i guess he has a career lined up if football doesnt work out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onZHpGYFPls

the offense you run in college is not that important nor a carry over to NFL performance ultimately...Neither Manning brother, Tom Brady, Roethlisburger, nor Romo ran pro style offense in college so worrying about what offense we run and the impact of their pro carrier is something that you shouldn't worry about....if pro scouts see you can plan ball you will get drafted where you belong....its not like grahm or colt were the most outstanding qbs of all time just cause you throw the ball doesnt mean you have a pro body nor pro mechanics

I don't doubt that he'll be drafted high, but history, in his case, is 100% against him. Not 80 or 90%, but a perfect 100%. I am not trying to say I know more than the scouts, but since 1990 they have repeatedly made the same mistake over and over. Junior QB's fail at the NFL level. Ask yourself this; why was Pete Carrol so adamant that Sanchez stay at USC?
Carrol knows more than any scout because he has coached him the past few years. And Carrol knows he's nowhere close to being NFL ready.

On a small note look how recent usc qb's leinert - bust and palmer - good when not injured, but haven't seen that for 2 years....It is easy to look really good when you are surronded be 6+ first round picks (could be the case for USC this year)

I'd like to echo what a couple other people have already said:
- Regardless of system or coach SMU has next to no chance of ever landing a 5 star QB. JJ and his offense don't make it any less likely and probably makes it more likely for us to have a shot at 3 and possibly 4 star type QBs.
- I want guys that will succeed at SMU and make the football program better here. I don't care what they project out to be in the NFL. I'd kill for SMU to land a great college QB with no chance of ever going to the NFL.
