And the same question goes to you?

Is the overwhelmingly Mustang band played music filling the stands just like at UT?

Is that working?

Or do you want it "to stay the same"?

The status quo, if you'll notice, is about 75% Mustang Band, 25% piped in. My argument is that it needs to go to about 85%, 15%, not the other way.

yes it does....i stated the Mustang band would be the
primary source of music and we should have some piped in tunes...
you then asked "why?"...as in "why should we do that"?

then you give a bunch of reason of why that should not happen.
that leads one to think you want band music only.

i say lets do a bit of both.
let everybody get some of what they want.....broaden the appeal
you want only the kind of music that appeals to you...thus "control freak"

 If you don't think they do "a bit of both" already, you haven't been paying much attention. We don't need more piped-in music; we need less. Should it go away completely? No...not yet, at least.

And in what universe does sharing an opinion make someone a control freak?

Calallen after your last couple of statements I now
think we are actually in agreement more than disagreement.

Oh and I still say that the 15-25% should include "HELLS BELLS"!

We can debate what type of music the PA system plays and what percent. My point is the PA system plays OVER the Mustang Band. People running the PA system are doing a poor job. It takes little common sense to wait your turn and show respect.

For what it's worth, I've never seen the crowd jiving to the PA system music. So it's not achieving crowd participation.

For what it's worth...I have.

And for what it's worth does the band cause the crowd to go bonkers?

The point being neither is the "be all - end all"....they are BOTH
a part of the package with the band being the much larger part.

Agree 100%

I love the band as well and it should be played most of the time, but I have no issues with Rap/Rock before the game, end of halftime etc. If anything it gets the players on the field pumped up.

This is my specialty I was in one of the biggest band in High School in the 80's and we would literally pump our team up into a victory. I don't see this in this band. I recall my sons both the one at Utep and here at SMU playing a basketball game and they were in the playoffs and we were down, they took a time out and our band played a update pump it up song and we mashed the gas and didn't come off of it and we Won the game. The Coach from the other team from East Texas told our next opponent's don't agree with letting the band come it hyped those boys up so much that it really made a difference. It does make a difference. Our band was a dancing band and I'm not saying you have to do that but we also had great precisions and we played all types of music and we played our music Loud especially when the opponents needed to be rattled. We played our music for the Mayor and other big groups around the DFW area we were known around here for being the best band around. Sure we were much larger then this band. But what would it hurt to see if works playing all types of music genre. I suggest that to draw in crowds we do a battle of the bands or more like showcase your bands to all the high schools around and it not only brings the band but the entire school, parents and friends that want to support them. We could do this each week and promote it all over each radio station. Big Bands from North, South, East and West. We need people to get interested in SMU and love it at a younger age and they will want to come on to the game to see the home town team and support them. I have lots of ideas to get people in the stands and sure winning will get some but changing the atmosphere will get alot of younger people.

Don't confuse High School bands with College bands.

THE RULES ARE DIFFERENT!!!

What can be done at high school can not be done at the college level.

Use movie clips on the high def screen. They have put together an excellent montage at Capitals games ending with the "unleash the fury" line from "Road Trip". The fans really got into it. In fact, if they didn't have the montage management would probably hear about it.

Its missing a small piece, but you get the idea.

I just wish they would get rid of the Journey montage at the begining of the 4th quarter. Blech.

On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney?
