Still haven't gotten over that one.

I don't think I've ever been more pissed about a loss in my life.

If it makes you feel better, I don't think beating NTSU would have gotten SMU in a bowl. However, losing to Arkie State and beating Rice would have. We just had to beat Rice.

And we didn't fire the guy after that game. We should have. I understand why we didn't, but we should have.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I'm glad we didn't fire PB after that game, because, we wouldn't have June Jones now.

June Jones has proven nothing on the field. His hawaii team was a joke.
Georgia absolutely dismantled them in the Sugar bowl. They got lucky in the WAC that year. BSU/Fresno State would have never folded like that in a big bowl game. Neither would have beat Georgia but I bet they would have given them, at the very least, some competition.

Clock is ticking this year. He better win some football games with his self annointed BLM run and shoot offense. He better make D a priortiy. Historically, he never has and this is worrisome. Of course if he fails to win so what. Everyone is used to it by now.

SMU has always had poor leadership in the Athletic Department. Until they prove otherwise the label is accurate.

PB should have been fired after that game. Lots of good coaches out there. What we are finding is that perhaps we overpaid for JJ.

Darn, no DC or Baltimore team. I guess they might not want to play in cold weather.

Awww, isn't that the cutest thing? It thinks it's bolstering its point by being condescending and then makes the same prediction that most of us are making in order to some how back it up. That's sweet.

These guys exist on all boards. I'm sure USC and Florida et al have theirs too.

I should point out that I very sincerely doubt you are part of the "we" that may or may not have overpaid JJ. But maybe I'm wrong and you willingly gave your very generous support to the "poor" leader of our Athletic Department.

The guy who posted his misgivings about JJ has some good points.. SMU is paying through the nose for a head coach who, on the record, is no better than the guy before him. If one does an anlysis of JJ's record at Hawaii, one thing jumps out at you. He beat very few good teams on the mainland. It was always a big handicap for a visiting team to play in Hawaii and that is where most of JJs wins came from. Now the travel handicap works both ways so maybe Hawaii did not travel well. I am old fashioned and believe in running the ball and would have been much happier with Paul Johnson or even Franchione. My bet is last season would have been better with Johnson. Having said that, the facts are that SMU has had almost no NFL caliber players since 1986 while teams that have regularly beat us regularly have a few NFL types. Of course, Johnson won at Navy and the Air Force has won without NFL caliber players and they both use the option. It seems that JJ and his staff are getting some better recruits at SMU and, in the long run, that will pay off. I am encouraged also by what appears to be a crack down on disciplinary problems at SMU. My guess is that JJ will improve SMU football a great deal, but not be able to get us where we ought to be, (at TCUs level)

If you are going to make that argument-there is one factor that should be mentioned-i forgot the exact percentage but about 62-65% of Hawaii games were home games in Jones' tenure-a significant advantage. I still think June Jones will turn it around at SMU-after all we are talking about the CUSA West and Rice, Tulsa, UTEP, Tulane and UH-more convinced after this year when we are actually going after quality recruits. He needs to shift the momentum to light a fire on SMU increased recruiting presence. SMU doesn't necessarily have to go to a bowl but 4-5 wins would send a signal the program is headed in the right direction.

Stallion, I agree. 4 or 5 wins with a respectable showing in the rest would show decent progress and I think that is doable unless he loses an irreplaceable player like the QB.
