TCU – Baylor - HoustonIMO the 3 schools that represent the best barometer for SMU.
Per Rivals, TCU and Baylor each have 7 commitments while Houston has 12. TCU’s 7 commitments 86% have other offers including 20 BCS offers and 6 non-BCS offers. Baylor’s 7 commitments 86% have other offers including 19 BCS offers and 5 non-BCS offers. Houston’s 12 commitments 67% have other offers including 5 BCS offers and 18 non-BCS offers. SMU’s 10 commitments 20% have other offers including 2 BCS offers and 5 non-BCS offers.
More doom and gloom.
First I can not accept Baylor as a barometer for SMU. Although a small private church school, they are in the Big XII, a BCS conference. I will accept TCU and Houston as comparable programs, but as of now, the long term losing is costing us dearly. I can't wait for us to be competitive with these programs. How do we compare with the other CUSA schools at this point? That is the true barometer of our current recruiting. If we can stay in the top 5 programs in recruiting in CUSA, the June Jones system and the facilities will prove invaluable. Then we can compare with the TCUs and Houstons. Just send 'da money.
I think SMU should aspire to recruit on the same level that Baylor, a BCS program, does in the near future. However, I wouldn't call Baylor a comparable for our program, whereas TCU is (although far ahead of where we even dream of being) bc they are non-BCS.
Really Rice should be added to this subset. Small private school is CUSA. Also located in a large city that is a football recruiting hotbed. Shares a greater metropolitan area with a more succesful program (UH for them, TCU for us). Thing is, they have gone bowling two of the past 3 seasons. Interesting analysis though. if you get the chance add Rice so we can take a look see. Maybe Tulsa too?
I think its fair to judge the progress a Coach makes in recruiting his third recruiting Class. We are paying him 2 million a year-I don't think many expect us to outrecruit TCU or even Baylor but I think its fair to judge how competitive a Coach is against conference and local rivals. Someone should add the other schools like Tulsa, Rice and UTEP too though-I will later if I have time.
It is hard for me to think of Houston and TCU as comparable right now for a few reasons. Houston has not beaten TCU since the early 1990's, they average about 10k less in attendance than the Frogs, and the Frogs regularly finish in the Top 25. That said, Sumlin seems to be a very good recruiter and they will be a program to watch in the near future. Briles has been recruiting very well at Baylor as well and I think that the big loser in the improvement of Baylor, TCU and Houston will be the Big 12 North, who seem to be getting beat out for top prospects by these three schools at increasing rates.
Like I said earlier how does a practicing attorney with a viable practice have time for such nonsence? June and his staff have been here for 17 months, you would prefer to cast him as a three year coach with three classes. All doom and gloom, which second rate coach did you want to come to SMU? You are still pissed that June came here after you insisted that no coach of his caliber would consider SMU. Just why do you follow SMU if you are always so negative and want to try to paint the worst picture possible? 17 months! Keep June and his staff in perspective, they are fighting 20 years of self inflicted wounds. Fine, let's analyze, but constant criticism? What have you accomplished in the last 17 months? What do you want and what do you expect? Just why are you so quick to bring up his salary, if you spent more time on your legal profession you might begin to approach his income, but you prefer to praise your shorthorns and thow stones at SMU and attack anyone that choses to blindly support SMU and still wants to fight Royal and his plan to destroy any football power in DFW. I'm sorry, but the system is fixed, we're out-gunned and I am still proud to support our team.
Riddler-I didn't post anything remotely controversial in this thread. In fact I don't know of a single poster who has made any real controversial statement about June Jones recruiting class, the 2010 recruiting class or any particular player other than posting offers and comment on the offers of our rivals. This is common information reported by SMUMUSTANG.com, June Jones on signing date, the DMN, Rivals, Scout and every other recruiting source. I think some of you are projecting your anger for no reason whatsoever. I've barely posted a thing on Ponyfans about recruiting on the 2010 class and none was harsh. In fact, I've repeatedly been complimentary of the preparation and effort by this recruiting class.
Why are you in denial? Your entire postings are nothing but negative, and the only rise we get out of you is when we attack your Longhorns? Any SMU supporter worth his salt hates the "horns". But, seriously, what is it you want? and what do you expect? just answer the questions. You are constantly attacking the program, you attack anyone that sees some "light at the end of the tunnel", you minimally support the program financially, again what is your motivation? Let's face it June embarrassed you when he joined the program agaist your prognostications. Do you have [deleted] envy or just think you should be the coach? Three recruiting classes and June is a failure. Come on, June had what ten days for the first class? and its still eight months until signing date for his third. He has been here 17 months. "All is lost, all is lost", quit trying to run down his efforts. Again, what is your motivation? to simply put SMU supporters, the program or June Jones down? or be the superior voice of doom on a free web site?
Name calling (Riddler), does that tactic work in court? A real first for me.
You're [deleted]' nuts. Get a hold you self you little psycho. You've asked about 20 questions in 2 posts. Are you about to cry? You've completely misstated my opinions so until you settle diown-get a hold of your emotions and Cowboy up-Go to Hell.
Name calling again (little pissant!), very matture for a practicing attorney, notice, you didn't answer a single question.
yeah baby....how did we miss these gems ![]()
Stallion...this guy may be on to something. Are you actually still pissed we didn't hire someone else besides June Jones? C-ya @ Milos!
