The perfect choice. I guess he changed his mind. I was really disappointed when I heard he had dropped out a while ago. But I'm glad the school rescued this.

I'm giving props to whoever for making this happen. He'll do great!

You've worked with him in the past, haven't you? Give us the lowdown.

Very solid. Thought he did fine as our sideline guy the last couple of years. Problem was they just never came to him enough.

Like his dry sense of humor. And the two things he does well is he understands talent and how to identify it. He was a junior college coach for a year. I also learn something from him in every broadcast.

And he and I have known each other for the last 3 years.

I may be biased but tthis is a home run move.

Phew! What a relief it is to know that you approve!

Maybe you can listen to him when you're wasting time in JerryWorld rather than watching the Ponies play their crosstown rival in your hometown and tell everyone he's your favorite.

Gomer-isms aside, welcome to the booth, Hamp!

Again with the somehow-your-opinion-is-less-intelligent or important simply because of his opinion is getting old, and it's a tired act. I'm glad he actually took the time to tell us what he knew, and give us his opinion and analysis of it. I actually learned a little something from it.

And you know what, anyone that watched that wretch in Ford Stadium last year against our cross town rivals shouldn't be put in a vice because they want to go and watch a competitive football game in a premiere venue on national tv. Lighten up, Francis.

I'm not saying anyone's opinion is more or less important than anyone else's - that's GSP's act, not mine. But for someone who trashed Craig Swann like he did to come on and emphatically announce this is a "home run" hire just oozes nepotism.

So Patton?

Do you have some sort of family, business, or professional link to John Hampton?

See, 2003 graduates are super-qualified to get jobs doing color for a University broadcast. John Hampton, the leading pass catching tight end in SMU history, is just the kind of big name that SMU needs.

Congrats to Hampton. I am sure he will do great.

but this just proves the point I was making all along.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

What does it matter? The guy can either do a good job or he can't. He'd be hard pressed to be more of a goofy homer than the last guy, but again Swann didn't bother me and I don't care who's doing the color since the overwhelming chances are that I won't be listening.

In case I wasn't clear before:

Congrats "Sideline." Look forward to hearing you on the broadcast.

Shucks, I was hoping for Dandy Don. Now he would have increased our broadcast ratings.

I already mentioned that I know John. I've listened to him and know where is strong and soft. And if he was struggling I'd tell him
And he wouldn't be oversensitive to it. He has to tweak a couple of things. But when he does he should be fine.

It will be a little bumpy early because he and Rich have to develop a chemistry but they should do well once the kinks get worked out

Without getting into editorial commentary here, are you in radio? Or is it "tweaking" based on your personal listening preference?

I've always liked Hampton's sideline work. If this really is the hire, I'm good with it, and congrats to John.
