Something else of interest will be how well Bryce Petty (Baylor) and Drew Allen (Oklahoma) do compared to Padron...both came out and said they'd be interested in playing for June Jones (before they got many other offers (Petty was after he got "de-committed" by Tennessee)). We were in contact with both but never offered - both obviously ended up getting great offers. Jones was sold on Padron over both of these guys

i talked to someone who knows Drew and heard that the Allen's really wanted an smu offer and that he wanted to come here. hope june knows what he is doing. the only thing about padron's video is that he really seems to zero in on one receiver!

yea, I heard Drew wanted to come here too. choosing Padron over Drew will be an interesting test of JJs evaluation. I think JJ's biggest quality he looks for in a high school qb is accuracy. he might have thought drew could read but wasn't accurate enough and wouldn't become so

There were 11 Rivals recruiting reports and 5 Scout Reports between the approximate date Padron committed to SMU and Allen LAST said he had any interest in SMU and Allen blew up to be one of the top recruits in Texas after an April combine. Considering the talent SMU (doesn't) have at QB how can you legitimately claim SMU didn't want Allen. I think its just as likely Allen moved on to bigger and better opportunities like most top prospects SMU recruits. Then SMU decided to offer Padron a couple of weeks AFTER SMU's camp. By the date Padron was offered by SMU, Drew Allen had at least 10 offers including mostly BCS schools. SMU may not have offered Allen-hell they probably couldn't get him on the phone he was so busy traveling across the country getting offer after offer. I think some of you are pretty selective in the facts yhou want to hear.

You're very selective in using specific information to try and make your point.

Drew Allen made comments that he wanted to go to SMU BEFORE others were interested but was saying he had NOT been offered. Don't you think JJ would have offered had he been enamored with Allen?

Petty made similar comments. Both were in contact with SMU staff but didn't receive offers. The date Padron was offered seems fairly inconsequential - during that time period, Scotty Young and then Jesse Scroggins were JJ's first targets. Padron may have been a backup plan but not for Allen.

SMU wasn't the first to offer and yes he did say he was interested in SMU while fishing for his first few decent offers. But the quality offers poured in between the time he made those comments and Padron was offered and committed. The Reason: He was rated at the Top QB at a major National combine. I bet I can point to 10-15 guys in 2010 that made the same glowing reports about SMU but then went in other directions when they got the offers they wanted. Think you are the one jumping to conclusions that SMU didn't want Allen. Petty is a totally different deal-he was off the board for about 8 months, was injured, had a pretty mediocre season when he did play and came back into the recruiting race when most top QBs had already committed. There is a common theme running through this thread-recruits like Scroggins, Julian Wilson and Allen who perform off the charts at major camps "blow-up" into National recruits when they perform well. All went from a handful of offers to about 10+ offers soon thereafter.

Stallion, do you realize we never offered Allen? I know all about Petty and no, we didn't offer him either though we were in touch with both guys which does show some interest on our parts in them, just not enough to offer.

Stallion, are you arguing that Jones did not offer because he recognized that these two QBs would get and accept BCS offers?

Stallion provides a lot of value to this board through his enthusiasm and research. However, he almost invariably sides with the recruiting rags over first- and second-hand information.

Me personally? If some recruit's mom or dad tells me something (sure, there may be an ulterior motive), I tend to give that at least as much credence as the recruiting rags.

On the other hand, you might consider putting a little more attention into your sentence structure. As I understand it, communication is key to a successful legal practice.
