TCU signs Serbian big man...
By Van Coleman [email protected]

Jim Christian and his TCU staff have added a quality big man in Nikola Cerina...

TCU head men¹s basketball coach Jim Christian announced on Wednesday that Nikola Cerina (Vrsac, Serbia | Nikola Tesla S.S.) has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Horned Frogs for the 2009-10 campaign.

"Nikola is a great addition to our program," said Christian. "Nikola is a 6-9 player that is big and strong, but very athletic. He¹s really going to help us on the interior. He¹s a player who knows how to play the game and
can really step up and shoot the ball."

The 6-9, 235 lb., power forward comes to the Frogs¹ program from Vrsac, Serbia, where he averaged 14.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game for KK Hemofarm of the Junior League.

Cerina becomes the fifth player to sign with the Frogs following the conclusion of the 2008-09 campaign as he joins Xavier Roberson (Houston, Texas | Mississippi Elite Christian Academy), Greg Hill (Gary, Ind. | Midland College) and Dernodo Eiland (Aurora, Ill. | Pratt C.C.) and Cheick Kone (Mali, Africa | Howard College). Garlon Green (Missouri City, Texas | Hightower H.S.) signed with the Frogs during the fall signing period.

I saw in the Washington Post that a Virginia Tech guard is transferring to purpleville as well.

A) Why do we care what Froggy High is getting for its basketball team?

B) Now we care — if the VaTech guard headed to FrogLand is the guy many thought was headed to SMU, then it matters. Hope that's not the case.

We have no available scholarships for this coming year and are painted into a nearly impossible corner for the next 2 years. No one is headed to SMU and we can only look at Froggie High as a program who appears to be doing a far superior job as compared to the nothing that is happening program on the Hilltop.

There are always available scholarships for the right guys.

Where is/are the scholarship(s) ??? Doh has made committments that he is not going to break to save his credibility. In football you have more numbers to play with; but such liberties in basketball come with more scrutiny and consequences.

Do you actually believe if a top rated recruit said he wanted to come to SMU that a current player would not "decide to transfer"? It happens all the time. They have been picking them off one at a time at Arkansas and still have one more that has to decide to leave before next year.

yes-and actually the practice has always been more common in Basketball than Football if you account for the smaller number of scholarships.

If I remember correctly, one of the TCU fans that posts here on occasion made reference to the fact that several players from last year's team would not be returning to give their coach the opportunity to deepen the talent pool. That's why they are still taking players now, and that is exactly what we will/have done for the right players.

When Julius was released one scholarship became available, and the notion that Doh has made commitments he wont break is laughable.

There are going to be more changes to the roster, before September.
