If you want the breaking news from Rivals and/or Scout you will need to sign up for their services. That is the only way we will continue to get the excellent coverage that we are getting now.

No one should belittle the other schools SMU was competing against. Remember in 2007 Arkansas State gave the Mustangs a nice can of whip [deleted] in Jonesboro. Also, Colorado State has been bowl games several times in the 1990s and 2000s. How many bowls games did SMU play in during that time?

Just stopping the snooty comments before they even start. Heck CBS sportsline's college football poll lists SMU as one of the choices for fans to select as the worst program this decade.

Now George, no one is belittling another school, but we should expect to be in a position with money the university has committed to this staff and the overall quality of our university to beat out other schools--especially non-BSC state colleges. You all but said as much two weeks ago when you were frutrated with our recruiting for the year. We do need to raise the bar on our expectations otherwise we will continue to be that "good ole SMU loser", with no expectations or accountablity for the money we spend--if you are satisfied with medeocrity thats all we ever will be. I know you aren't, but then that's why I am pulling your chain!

8) You can't tell? Think that Armen dude was probably hyperventilating but heard SMU had it in the bag because CSU already had Bobby Borcky commited.

Borcky was recruited as an athlete for them...had nothing to do with the kaiser decision...

You asked about higher rated QBs in the past decade, but regrettably, the Rivals rating system is only a few years old (started in '05 I think). I concur 100% that June's opinion counts more than what anyone else thinks. But I also know with equal certainty that coaches put a positive spin on all their recruits. Having attended every SMU signing event since Bennett was hired, I've never heard any coach say anything other than "this is one of the best... blah, blah, blah... recruiting classes of my career". That might be a slight exaggeration, but not much of one.

But if you want to go strictly by ratings, you might also consider:

Chris Sanders '97-'98 (if you let him squeak in under your decade definition), who was a Rivals Texas Top 100 QB. As an aside, the lowest rated current Texas Top 100 QB has a 5.6 rating (same as Kaiser), an offer from SMU and signed with TAMU)

Josh McCown

Ricky Joe Meeks was also a Rivals 3-star before the ratings system was implemented, and also named to the Rivals Texas Top 100 list (at #72). If you look at this year's list, there's a QB at #71, Seth Doege rated 5.7 and signed and LOI the TTech.

Richard Bartel, who may have flown beneath the Rivals radar at that time (their network wasn't nearly as flushed out then as now) because he'd signed with the Cincinnati Reds. But he was an all-region and all-state selection out of high school, and would have been highly recruited had he not already signed with the Reds.

I think all four of those QBs would be rated around the same, or perhaps even slightly above, where Kaiser is. Again, I don't put much stock into Rivals Ratings; underneath all the coach-speak, Jones is infinitely more credible as a talent evaluator. Kaiser could be a very good pick-up for the Stangs, but he's a far cry from standing alone as the highest rated QB of the decade.

The rankings are relevant to the talent they had year be it top 100 or whatever. Your logic is off. Also, if you don't put much stock in rivals ratings then stop using them to try to prove your point. I think I see what you are trying to say but you are not proving your point very well. In fact, you are stretching. It seems as if you are trying real hard to downgrade the young man and we can keep going back and forth. I also know he is coach speak is as well. But the bottom line is we have a very good QB, possibly the best incoming freshman QB in a long time(yes a decade). But I imagine you will say something to try and degrade that comment as well. Anyway, we will see how his career goes at SMU compared to others. To my understanding Coach Jones think highly of him, and I like his evalution over yours any day. I wish him the best.

By the way here is an interview with Stephen today (sub needed).

Watched Kaiser on youtube highlight reel...looked good to me.
I'm glad SMU got him. Strong arm...accurate arm...and a gamer...not afraid to tuck it and go.

My daughter had a couple of former SMU players over last night (graduates of 2007), they both agreed that Richard Bartel was the best qb in a decade at SMU and Bennett ran him off. I was extremely surprised that they were so hard in their comments about Bennett. Both said how much the team despised him and went on and on about it. In fact the only coach that they liked during their senior year was Rusty Burns, who they felt had a fantastic offensive mind that Phil would constantly overrule. The rest they didn't feel would have qualified for a good Texas' high school program. They liked a couple of coaches in their first two years, but again claimed Phil ran them off. Like I said, I was surprised at the depth of their feelings against Phil.
