JJ on ESPN radio on SaturdayI happened to be driving around on Saturday and heard Eric Kasilias (sp?) and Mel Kiper, Jr. And they interviewed JJ about last season and this coming season. He said we should have won two more games last year at least. They talked about starting 10 sophomores this year and how they grew up last year. He talked about Bo Levy Mitchell learning under fire and how much better he looked this spring than he did last fall and how he well he is learning the offense. He compared him to Timmy Chang. He also mention Padron as a real talent. He said the defense would be improved, but still needed some work. He said recruiting for SMU was not as hard as you would think. While the kids have never heard of us, the parents have. And our academics puts us ahead with of other schools. Asked about attendance, he said that he expects with the Cowboys pricing themselves out of the stratosphere, that we would get more average fans, but we had to start winning on the field to break through to them.
I was a bit surprised to read in today's Dallas Morning News that.... the Mavericks have lost money, on an operating basis, in all but one year that Cuban has owned them. C-ya @ Milos!
The profit in pro sports is not from the year in and year out money from tickets, concessions, etc. but from the appreication of the value of the franchise. If you can keep the value of the franchise on the increase (which Cuban has done), then you can borrow against the appreciated value for cash flow, ask Tom Hicks. Then someday you sell to the bigger fool, and make your profit. Oh, by the way, the profit is long term capital gain so you don't have to pay taxes on the entire amount. Just send 'da money.
Donald Sterling would probably beg to differ. Then again, that's why his team is in such disarray.
on another "heard on the radio item".... Bill King on Rivals Radio this morning GUARANTEED SMU will be competing for the C-USA title in 2 yrs.
To DiamondM75's point, the Mavs have the longest home sellout streak in the NBA...nearing 400 games, I believe.
SMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four
2014-15 & 2016-17 AAC Men's Basketball Champs
I point to the Washington Capitals. Three years ago, even with rookie Ovechkin, the Verizon Center looked like a half empty shell. Now, the place is sold out every game with playoff tickets getting as high as $500/seat for game 7 against the Pens.
