I sure hope he decided to stay or decides to stay. but its still concerning if he had to be convinced not to leave. all sorts of implications if a leading player and your point guard is not really happy, and none of them are at all good for your basketball team.
but this too is a rumor. we know nothing. we all assume. but in the end, only Mccoy and Doh know. maybe he just wanted to workout and be close to home during the summer. who knows.
Yes, but this "rumor" has followed Doherty everywhere he's gone. And since some of his Carolina players came right out and said he didn't get along with them, I'm not sure if it's even a "rumor."
I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.
Not sure how "in the loop" I am, what I know/haveheard comes from the other players and a few professors. For what its worth, here it is: In April when everyone else registered for fall classes, McCoy didnt register, and told a few professors that he did not plan on returning. In May when exams were over, he moved out of the dorms, and before going home to Oregon told his former teammates he was not going to return. In June 2 players requested their release, and were denied. One of them came back for summer school in June, but McCoy did not. In phone conversations with former teammates, he seemed adamant about not returning. That doesnt tell you anything definitive about him returning, either way. I havent talked to Paul (or his mom, and I cant get you free tickets), so I cant tell you with any real certainty what is on his mind. I dont know if McCoy even knows for certain what he is going to do. I'm going to be out of town the next 2 weeks (maybe 3), so I dont expect to hear anything new before the rest of you do. Sorry that I could not be of more help. Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.
It's not that they cant play again ever, but they would have to sit out a 2nd year, and lose a year of eligibility, and I believe he cant be on scholarship while sitting out. Very few schools would be interested in a player who has to sit out 2 seasons, so options would be very limited for a player who didnt recieve a release. You can go to a JC or D2 school without being released, though. There was a big stink over this about 5 months ago, when a kid from Miami (not Shawbrey McNeil, a different guy, played QB) wanted to transfer, and Miami wouldnt give him a release to any school in Florida. It made the national news for a few weeks. Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.
This quote is from the 2007-08 NCAA Transfer guide. It basically says what I mentioned above, but it's their official statement, so I hope this explains it. "Generally, if you’re now going full-time to an NCAA or NAIA four-year school and you want to transfer to a different NCAA school to play, your current school’s athletics director must give written permission to the new coach or member of the athletics staff before you or your parents can talk with one of them. That’s called having a permission-to-contact letter. You may write to any NCAA college saying that you’re interested in transferring, but the new coach must not discuss transfer opportunities with you unless he or she has received written permission from your current school. If your current school does not give you permission, another school cannot contact you and encourage you to transfer. This does not preclude you from transferring; however, if the new school is in Division I or II, you cannot receive an athletics scholarship until you have attended the new school for one year. Also, if your current school officials do not give you permission to transfer, they must tell you in writing that you have a right to appeal your case. In that instance, a panel of people from your current school who are not involved in athletics will meet to decide the issue." Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.
McCoy rumors are backOK. Here is the truth. Paul McCoy will be on campus b4 school starts.
Yes, he asked for his release because his mom wanted him to stay closer to home. But at the end, his mom realized that Paul's heart is with the mustangs. About summer school, Paul is home working and helping out with the family while his mom is in Samoa taking care of her ailing mom (his grandma). Oh yes Patton, I asked Paul and he will put you on his guest list for the games. So how do you want to do this? Am I reliable source? I think so, because I'm Paul's cousin. PLEASE NO MORE RUMORS ABOUT HIS RETURNING. HE'S STILL A MUSTANG. PLEASE GO WATCH THE GAMES AND SUPPORT THEM.
Re: McCoy rumors are back
Ha!! I was close.
Re: McCoy rumors are backThat's basically the gist of what I've heard (including the grandma part), and if you're really his cousin, I hope that puts all of this to rest. Best part of your post is that his heart is with the Mustangs! I tell you, I was in Dallas a couple of times during basketball season last year, and I'd heard about the guy, but when I got to see him play  what a special player. Then all the stories about how he would get upset after a loss and go into the gym and shoot after the game ... here's a guy who seems really competitive and wants to do everything possible to win. Hope everyone on the team follows his lead. All the best to Paul's grandmother.
This.
This too. Thoughts and prayers are with her.
Having his heart here at SMU is light years ahead of some of our recent players, even if his body is somewhere else!
