Having one of the top 25 highest paid coaches in college football...yep ponydawg I think "we mean it" this time. Last year in his first season SMU paid June Jones more than Steve Spurrier at South Carolina, more than Mike Leach at Texas Tech, more than Gary Pinkel at Missouri, more than Gary Patterson at TCU, more than Mike Sherman at Texas A&M, more than Houston Nutt at Ole Miss, more than Joe Paterno at Penn State, more than Paul Johnson at Georgia Tech, more than Rick Neuheisel at UCLA, more than Dave Wannstedt at Pitt, more than Skip Holtz at East Carolina, more than Ron Zook at Illinois, more than George O'Leary at UCF , more than Dennis Erickson at Arizona State, more than Todd Graham at Tulsa, more than Bo Pelini at Nebraska, more that Mike Gundy at Oklahoma State, more than Bobby Johnson at Vanderbilt, more than Bret Bielema at Wisconsin..... so yeah I think we mean it this time! C-ya @ Milos!
By the same token, one using that logic could say that all of those schools listed above got more bang for their buck.
By the same token, one using that logic could say that all
of those schools listed above got more bang for their buck. Yeah and how many of those coaches were coming into a situation like June Jones?.....good grief why cant you be positive about our admin paying top dollar to try to get this thing turned around? C-ya @ Milos!
I am positive somebody paid top dollar for Jones, but not
our administration. "Thank you Circle of Champions"- the Knuckleheads. So you don't give Steve Orsini any credit for putting together the deal that has June Jones at SMU? As if you or I could have put all the pieces together that made the June Jones hire happen. ![]() "I am also positive it has not been turned around yet" Wow you mean after one season June Jones has not turned it around yet?......OMG! C-ya @ Milos!
No, how about Good grief to you, dude. Nowhere did I even come off as being negative. I just merely made a counterpoint to your statement. Yes, we made a commitment to football with the money we're paying June Jones and it is duly noted. I'm just saying if you're going to list all those coaches that he's getting more money than, then I think it's fair to point out that the return, in terms of perception, was far less than those coaches listed above. Why do you have get so defensively like a little crybaby every time someone merely points out a different point of view? If you want to be a sunshiner, then great but don't get your tighty whities in a wad if someone gives a different point of view than yours.
Nowhere did I even come off as being negative.
So it's not negative to "pee on the parade" that SMU has finally went out and paid big time money to hire a big name coach.... gotta try to smash that positive by pretending SMU is not getting a very good bang for it's buck because the new highly paid coach did not turn the ship around in his first season? Yeah sure....... I just merely made a counterpoint to your statement. Oh I know....no matter what....if anything is said positive about this program someone will come racing in to at least try to "pee on the parade". It's amazing to watch negative people. Hey SMU has a beautiful new stadium "Yeah but it's sure is a small stadium" Hey SMU signed a 3 Star recruit "Yeah but one service has him as a 2 Star" Hey SMU has a great tailgate with the Blvd "Yeah but it's tiny compared to Ole Miss" Hey SMU hired a big name coach "Yeah but he didn't turn us around in one year" blah blah blah.....make me vomit! ![]() I'm just saying if you're going to list all those coaches that he's getting more money than, then I think it's fair to point out that the return, in terms of perception, was far less than those coaches listed above. Wow....thanks for educating everyone that June Jones in his first year trying to turn SMU around from 20 years of losing did not produce as many wins as all the respected coaches on the list. Why do you have get so defensively like a little crybaby every time someone merely points out a different point of view? Why do feel the need to race in to to point out a negative angle about about SMU finally stepping up to bat and hiring one of the highest paid coaches in football....pretending that June Jones can somehow be judged as an economic failure after only one year compared to the other coaches listed that make less money? That would be like an early capital investor telling Bill Gates his first year in business "look I did loan you the money to start Microsoft but so far I'm getting a better return on my capital from the Dairy Queen I own". "If you want to be a sunshiner, then great but don't get your tighty whities in a wad if someone gives a different point of view than yours" The point is SMU has had plenty of bad news to report, obviously there's been no shortage of disappointment for all of us. I just find it odd the need to "search for negatives" in even the rare positive news like SMU stepping up with the top programs in the country and hiring a big name coach. C-ya @ Milos!
No, dumb@ss, as usual the point went right over your pointed head. Your previous statement had nothing to do with getting him here, it had to do with paying him:
That was dead wrong. Orsini is not paying him out of his own pocket. And if the athletic department contributes to his salary, it ain't very much. I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.
The problem with you and all your sunshiner buddies is that the "rare positive news" you've got to report happened over a year ago and the guy managed to squeeze out one win over a d-2 team that that's all you have to cling to loser. I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.
Not to sound too sunshiner, because I think we still have a lot of work to do, but JJ coming to SMU does represent a significant committment to winning football in two ways. (1) The guy is a winner and a "name" coach. (2) He would not have come unless he knew that some of the handcuffs were coming off. Now we just have to be patient and wait that he will do what he has always done. Its no surprise that a large percentage of our starters at years end were true freshmen, because JJ saw the need to tear it down to rebuild. When you are in the process of a demolition it is not a pretty sight.
