Not sure I understand the path this thread has taken. June Jones wants to put 32,000 butts in Ford Stadium and our own pony fans want to bring up the 3,000 and 5,000 and JV-like attendance figures. I'll do my part to help reach the goal. I doubt I'll use the "we only had 7,000 at the Cal St. Northridge game in '99, so you probably won't want to come to our home opener against SFA" line. How about... "We used to draw 50,000 to 60,000 occasionally and we're trying to rebuild our fan base by selling out Ford Stadium for the SFA home opener... I think you'll like the SMU game experience - the price is right - can we count on you and your family on September 5?"

The 50,000 crowds are in the past. The 5,000 crowds are in the past. None of that really matters today. The prevailing cynical attitude amongst some posters (I wouldn't say "fans") is depressing.

I prefer to accentuate the positive. Not hiding from the negatives - but I certainly won't dwell on them. We gotta turn this thing around.

So the goal is to sell 2,500 more season tickets. Aren't we looking at about 11,000 season ticket holders from last season, or is that off?

I admire the great push to sellout SFA. It is going out on a limb and SMU has needed that.

That said, there is no way that SMU will come close to having a full house for the opener.

I just bought my 4 tix for the home opener. JJ convinced me to pony up with all this sell out talk. (Not really, I always travel to the home opener only to realize 3 games later that I will not need to return until the next season.)

I'm getting ready for a damn fine season for my Mustangs! (Well, I guess I'll be okay if we at least have a mediocre one.)

Regards.

When will The Knuckleheads produce a new video for this year's Mustangs using the "All Grit! No Quit!" tagline?

I venture to say that you will not be a part to the effort to sell-out the stadium - because it won't be easy and you don't think it can be done - so you won't take part. Most Mustang fans will be there to be a part of a sell-out. Others will go in anticipation of failure to meet the goal - and to be the first to say, "I told you so." Opportunity is missed by some people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work. Anyway, thanks for the vote of confidence.
