Does anyone know how his grades came out and his status on the team? I thought the grades were supposed to be available last Tues.

He's on the roster, I think that means he's cleared...

Roster is put out by SID-it's not a reflection of eligibility.

Can you say Larry Johnson? Our last shot at a Final Four.....

That reference doesn't make any sense. Larry Johnson did not attend SMU solely because Kenneth Pye made it so. The NCAA had nothing to do with it.

It makes plenty of sense. SMU was still so terrified of the NCAA because of the DP, Johnson was not permitted in. That was a HUGE mistake. And it WAS the NCAA, indirectly.

I contend we're still ultra terrified of the NCAA>

You may be right Mr. Pony. This could be the biggest test so far of the new model (as Stallion calls it).

Shawnbrey McNeal took part in practice this morning. After the workout, head coach June Jones said that it might be early September before the NCAA rules on McNeal's eligibility.

I really hope he gets eligible.
Sounds like his speed is pretty rare.

If we have to wait until September to learn of the NCAA's decision that is one thing. However, surely we should know his grades before then, given that school starts in August. I can't help feeling that if SMU declared him to be in good standing academically, the NCAA would be under more pressure to declare him eligible to play.

I have not heard anyone say he is academically eligible yet. Perhaps one of our "ACE" reporters can ask that question.

I have difficulty in figuring out why it always takes the NCAA several months to answer a yes or no question. Everyone on this board knows the circumstance, so the NCAA should also. All they have to do is respond. They have done so on others so there is no reason that I can think of that they can not for us. Perhaps they go in alphabetical order, thus Arkansas finding out two weeks ago and SMU still in limbo.

I would think its possible the NCAA would not open his file for consideration until all X's and O's are submitted. Why waste time considering the waiver of a kid who hasn't established his eligibility yet when just about every team in the country have similar cases for review. That could be the reason for the delay. They probably consider the cases of the kids who get all their ducks in a row first.

This guy (Vidal Hazelton) was denied the waiver in June. I wonder what the key difference was between him and the running back that tfr'd to Arkansas.
