*AD Steve Orsini has confirmed that Miami transfer Shawnbrey McNeal will be academically eligible this fall. The running back still must be cleared by the NCAA to compete immediately this fall.
Coach June Jones has said the ruling may not come until the first week of September. SMU opens Sept. 5 against Stephen F. Austin. Orsini told boosters the news at a meeting this a.m.
*Kevin Kaplan, who is leading the Sellout 2009 effort for said Stephen F. Austin game, called this a.m. to tell me Gene Jones, wife of Jerry, has joined the Sellout committee. She brings a woman's touch and an impressive one at that - and another 1,000 sold tickets. Mrs. Jones serves on the SMU board of trustees.
Kaplan said of the 10 or so times he's led Sellout efforts at various schools around the country, SMU's effort is out of the chute fastest. He said 100 business or individuals have already taken part in the campaign. He'll release some figures to me soon, he said.
*Receiver Aldrick Robinson sat out of practice today (hamstring).
*June Jones tweeted that he expects five or six freshmen to contribute this season. I'll press him on which ones very soon.
