Not as "rocket" as recent past. Docket is pretty full right now. And some venue requirement changes vis-a-vis the appellate courts (not to mention an attempt by the San Jose, CA district Congressman...name eludes me at the moment...to get laws regarding venue changed) have created more of a "pace" in the court.

There is some Dallas tech/investment company that is the cause of most of Marshall's less-than-flattering press on the matter. The family has a German name...Spangenberg or something. Their tactics are, in the vernacular, "patent troll-ish" in the truest sense of the words (although I admit that I am bewildered why private property rights are subject to scrutiny when they aren't real estate). These guys have gotten into trouble, and unfortunately, they have utilized the courts here in Marshall, so the courts sometimes get a bad rap.

Regardless, the real reason for the "rocket" prior to very recently is because Judge Ward (and another judge in Tyler that he is buddies with) are truly old school. To paraphrase, Attorneys are like everybody else...they have a job to do. They should show up to work on time, prepared, and stay on task. The court has a schedule, and by God, when time is up, it's up. Ward doesn't like fooling around, he will absolutely embarrass counsel if they aren't prepared (hence why a lot of folks use firms around here...those of us who know Judge Ward know how not to [deleted] him off), and he isn't into delaying tactics. He won't pontificate about it either. It is what it is. It's a waste of his time, the jury's time, and the stenographer's time. So...if that modus operandi favors plaintiffs (I'm not an attorney...I don't know), then I guess the "rocket docket" gets its name honestly.

If you come to Marshall, and you are counsel, bring your wife to shop near the holidays, or your husband to fish on Caddo Lake or Lake O' The Pines. We have a vibrant small downtown, especially from October to Christmas.

Are you looking for patent prosecution counsel (wanting to get a patent) or patent litigation counsel (suing someone or getting sued for patent infringement)?

2 totally different skill sets.

If the latter, call me:
