SMU's Best Player

Postby PerunaPunch » Sat Aug 15, 2009 9:50 am

"Several players have bulked up. Youri Yenga, whom Jones quickly pegged as SMU's best player, moved from end to outside linebacker to take advantage of his pass-rushing abilities."
Excerpt from Kate Hairopoulos' story SMU's Jones steady in belief that winning will happen

I know the coaching staff seems to be pretty enamored with Yenga, but SMU's best player? Really? Will he have a breakout season with the move to OLB (which, IMHO seems at first blush anyway to be a better fit given Yenga's size and speed)?

Yenga gets my vote. Last year, as an undersized DE, he had 6.5 sacks when going against players who often had 100 pounds on him. He's stronger and quicker, or so I'm told, and now he gets to rush the passer with a running start.

Hope we turn him loose on nearly every play.

I know Yenga supposedly has all the talent in the world, but since Sanders is about to rewrite damn near every receiving record on the Hilltop, chalk up another vote for #17.

Bell's another one... Supposedly has all the talent in the world, but our best CB was, and continues to be, Bryan McCann.

Hopefully, by the middle of the first defensive series, Taylor Thompson will show some dominance.

This program hasn't seen his blend in a long time

"Anyone who had followed June Jones, who knew how he built his program and what he thought of SMU's program should have known this was really a silly waste of time. Can we now get on with hiring a Head Coach...?" -- Stallion, December 25, 2007 11:38 pm

He may only be a sophomore, but the kid is a beast!

SMU's best player?

Um, can you go with none. That an acceptable answer?

Maybe take that one to the SFA board and give us a consensus on who you think is the least, worst player. :)

It is hard, every player is just horrible.  Can we change the topic to " Which SMU player doesn't suck as bad as the rest?"
