Does that mean CUSA loses its March Madness credits?

Nope, they just vacate all of their wins, they are not forfeits, so the teams they beat don't get extra Ws.

Really a bummer for Memphis, they lose their conference streak, winningest players ever in a four year streak, and have now had 2 of their 3 final four appearances vacated.

Some good reads out there about it, Memphis fans are a bit delusional like SMU fans with their "this would never happen to a big school" rants but the punishment seems in line with recent rulings...an insider has offered that this was more about the University letting Cal run the program..apparently Memphis was alerted mid season that there could be an eligibility question about Rose and Calipari convinced everyone to keep things quiet and let Rose keep playing...

Of course, everyone is pointing to USC and calling double standard but the verdict is still out on them...I have a feeling that they are going to be rocked hard by the NCAA in ways that have not been seen in a long time....hope it happens soon so that this double standard talk can be put to rest.

I would have been very happy if they had merely vacated all our wins in 1988. Do these Memphis fans realize that this is a wrist slap? No television sanctions, no scholarship sanctions, no game limitation sanctions, no recruiting sanctions. It could have been so much worse. Do you think KY will be in the NCAA cross-hairs, since J.C. has now done this at two schools? Not a chance.

Old habits die hard.

Dana O'Neil's article at ESPN says it all...

We waited eight weeks for this?

For a punishment that has the bite of a 15-year-old golden retriever?

The NCAA Committee on Infractions just released its decision on Memphis, a decision that includes punishment for major infractions.

And the penalty is basically to tell us it never happened.

Can you imagine if this was SMU?

Well, somebody had to pay for Reggie Bush and USC's use of him while he was getting the goodies.

This payback is for O.J. Mayo, we are all still waiting to see who pays for the Reggie Bush fiasco!

Hopefully not SMU!

talk about alarmist. wouldn't the ncaa need some actual evidence to come down [deleted] memphis? They have nothing on Rose and the SAT, just speculation. The only tangible and real issue was rose's brother and the plane tix. Nobody w/any knowledge thought this would amount to anything after seeing what the NCAA had.
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.”- Jalen Jones

I thought that they were not basing it on whether or not he did/did not cheat on his SAT test, I thought that they ruled his results invalid because of his three past miserable failures to pass in his home town and then him miraculously going all the way to Detroit to pass just a month before school.....

NCAA admits they had no evidence he cheated, but they did not accept his score in large part because he refused to respond to their questions, they tried to get a response or his side, and he said nothing to them, probably under Cal's advice, which means he was not eligible...they notified Memphis of this, and they kept playing him anyway.

That is too bad we don't get those 2 extra wins. Then we could start discussing a contract extension for Doh! :)
Ironically, Norm just teased this topic on The Ticket by mentioning Doh's record at SMU...
