Re: There are no words to describe what I watchedI think there is simply one negative to come out of this game. BLM.
Defense is much, much better than last year. Much faster team this season. They were on the field so often, they were bound to give up some plays. But, they played very well. They gave up two 5 yard TD drives, and two really long field goals. Not bad in my book, I don't care what the yardage says. On top of that, the playcalling was extremely generic on purpose on defense. It was a major positive to come out of this game. If BLM isn't horrible, this is a 55 - 9 game. And BLM was awful. His throws were all over the place, no accuracy, didn't lead guys correctly. A lot of the "drops" were because WR were having to twist the wrong way or come back significantly for the ball.
Re: There are no words to describe what I watchedDon't get me wrong, the defense appeared much better than last year. But if we were playing a better team, I think we would have been in for a much longer night. We had next to zero pressure on the QB.
Another bright spot on defense? Kennemer. Great tackling, and nice sack near the end of the game.
Re: There are no words to describe what I watchedHow do you apply pressure when the QB takes a quick 2-step back and fires, not the line but the defensive scheme has to adapt

Re: There are no words to describe what I watchedYeah, there are some words to describe what you saw and here they are:

Re: There are no words to describe what I watchedNot every play was a 2 step drop. Plenty of opportunities to get in there and make something happen.
Re: There are no words to describe what I watchedBo Jangles better lay off of the gameday coffee before UAB. He was over throwing, or over
leading everybody resulting in no offense, and a great start at breaking his personal best in interceptions in a season. Until McNeil got going, and he looks like a back that gets stronger the more times you give him the ball, we were getting chopped down like a tree by the lumberjerks. June in Hawaii should develop a REAL run n shoot offense around McNeil, or go back to spend more Junes in Hawaii. He just likes the pay scales on main land. ![]() Last edited by PlanoStang on Sun Sep 06, 2009 12:48 am, edited 1 time in total.
May the forth be with us.
Re: There are no words to describe what I watchedThe defense gave up way too many yards all game until late in the 4th where I thought they finally decided to take the game away from SFA and toughened up and actually took the ball away from them...the defensive line looks small except for Frazier and they really didn't pressure their QB much at all.
Re: There are no words to describe what I watched
we were smaller and only slightly faster than SFA overall. that was the most disappointing thing to me by far. I wouldn't have predicted our qb performance, but cant say was surprised by it.
Re: There are no words to describe what I watchedI need to see a REAL DIV 1A game to compare what I saw tonite against.

Re: There are no words to describe what I watched
the D never gets pressure on the QB!
Re: There are no words to describe what I watchedJJ ragged on the many dropped passes after the game. How about ragging on the pathetic passes of you QB for a change and question if he should be your starter. I don't give a hoot if he has a big arm if he has no touch-something I know Smith has or atleast he did in high school. And could it be time to shuck the run and shoot and go to the spread and why you ask-because we barely can score against SFA. Our inability to run against a team like SFA even with a few back-ups is unfathomable too. And to hear DJohnson hurt his shoulder-not good news for the receiving corp either. The game presentation be it in person or on all-access is as amateurish as they come. It's tough to keep pulling for this team be it football or basketball anymore-a person can take only so much of this "crap". Even UNT showed well this week-hum.
Re: There are no words to describe what I watched"He had a couple great moments, but he needs to turn his head around on coverage"
This worries me. Yeah we got some int's last night, but in a lot of situations our DB's are not ever looking back and have no idea the ball is about to arrive...I saw this happen countless times last night...the DB is shadowing the receiver nicely but never glances back to see where the ball is and has no idea the ball is arriving thus there is no attempt to break up the pass or get the pick.....is this proper technique?....or are the DB's told to shadow the receiver and not look back? C-ya @ Milos!
Re: There are no words to describe what I watchedThis morning I realized that after Last Season's First Game loss to Rice on the road I was actually optimistic about SMU's FB Team's play.
The team looked as if it had a basic knowledge of JJ's R & S and improvement was sure to follow. Here we are a year later, the QB still can't throw accurately, and If he does the Receivers drop the ball. This team appears to be a chimera with no direction or cohesion, and that elusive second win may be nothing more than a mirage. ![]() ![]() ![]() SMU - IT'S YOUR TURN

Re: There are no words to describe what I watched
that's exactly what I was thinking last night. This team REGRESSED if you compare Rice last year vs SFA this year...at least on the offensive side of the ball sans Shawnbrey.
Re: There are no words to describe what I watchedI actually thought Smith might be going into the game in the 3rd quarter as he was warming up. He SHOULD have gone in the game. BLM is clearly not the answer. This offense has to have an accurate QB and he has not fit the bill. Maybe he will, but last night was pathetic. Without McNeal, we definitely lose the football game.
