Numbers

Postby Pony_Fan » Sun Sep 06, 2009 4:52 pm

I guarantee this has been brought up before but why in the world are the 2 or 3 of several numbers out there. It really looks bush league. we have 2 #11's, 2 #8's, 2 #9's - among a few others. Do any other schools do this? Why do we?

Colleges do this all the time as they are allowed to do so. If a player plays offense only and another player plays defense only they can use the same number. (105 players with only 0-99 single and double digit number allow on jerseys.)

When you are allowed to have over 120+ players on the squad, it has to be done. no other way around it. Remember also that 19, 37, 73 and 80 are retired so there are four less numbers to choose from.

Even Texas, Oklahoma, and USC do it. It's not bush league at all.

Actually, there are three #11s — Cole Beasley, Matt Szymanski and Jeremy Gray.

There are more players than numbers, and as I understand it, as long as two guys don't have the same number on offense, defense or special teams, it's perfectly legitimate.
