If he needs corrective lenses (glasses, contacts, lasik, etc. — whatever), that should be mandatory.

With that said, yes — this team is miles ahead of where it was last year. In 2008, we had no defensive linemen who looked as good as Thompson or Frazier. We didn't have a LB who could even dream of being as good as Yenga will, and Kennemer looks like a nice surprise, too. The freshman LBs look promising, too. Secondary will be better with a third legit CB (Sterling Moore) in there, and adding Bryce Hudman back to the mix will help in a number of ways. The offensive line should be better now that they have a year under them, and the WRs could be better with a presumably-improved Wilkerson and Haynes, a now-healthy Beasley, etc. Damn shame about Johnson.

I agree with those who have said our team last night was much better than last year. I will leave it to others to go into the analysis position by position. Except I will point out we have a true Running Back this year. McNeal showed great promise. Last year when Bo got in trouble, June had not place to go. Last night he had McNeal and his running combined with the offensive line's adjustments led to two touchdowns.

As for Bo, if he does not come around I think June will make the change. I don't know if it would be Smith or Padron. Might depend on how late in the season it is. Hopefully, a change will not be necessary.

He's near-sighted and refuses to wear contacts. The face guard makes the proiblem worse. Yes, the coach's have been told.

I'd suggest he get some corrective lenses.

CalallenStang - that is a beautiful photo of Ford. When was that taken? Ford looks so Top 25 in that pix.

Found it on a Google Image search.

What year did we have the big tent in the south end?

If Bo has poor vision and does not like glasses or contact lenses why during the off-season didn't he go see SMU Graduate and world renowned eye surgeon Dr. Harvey Carter at the Carter Eye Clinic which is about 5 minutes away from SMU?

OK. In sunshiner mode, I would at least say that we know for a fact that Bo and the Receivers are better than they played on Saturday. I was driving through west Texas during the game so all I have is Rich Phillips point of view (and then only on an atmospheric bounce and at the tops of hills), but it sounded like Mitchell had time back there and was just missing receivers (and even when they made completions, the throws were too far off to allow YAC). So can anyone who was at the game peg the poor offensive performance on the O-line? If not, then we know the Offense can play much, much better.

The Defense showed us a lot more in that game than last year. I know that it was against a tomato can, but still, last years tomato can lit us up. Given that, I tihnk that we're seeing the incramental improvement that we've been expecting. If the Offense lays another egg like that though... Sigh. I just hope they don't throw Padron to the wolves.

If he can't see, refuses corrective lenses and the coaches know it, we are either so weak at QB that we have to play a kid who ought to be playing for Galludet, or his eyesight isn't that bad and he just plain stunk out there this weekend. Either way, UAB is licking their chops.

Well, we gave up 394 yards passing to this non FBS Southland Conference bottom feeding "tomato", 23 points, if they had not turned over the ball so much, the results could have been much worse....to me though, the biggest tell that the defense is not "light years" ahead is at the end of the game when we needed a stop, we couldn't do it...first time they drove down the field with big play after big play, only to fumble in field goal range..the next drive they drove down only to miss a chippy go ahead field goal.....The defense showed nothing in crunch time against an FCS school...not a good sign.

bagice, you're right, SFA drove down the field when it counted. we got lucky for a change that kicker missed a field goal. they probably thought the kid was automatic, he had drilled much harder kicks earlier in the game. The D did not really get the stop it needed.

It was an ugly W but it was a W. In the past, we lose that game.

The emergence of a running game was huge. If we can continue to run the ball like that & get the passing game clicking we should have a good O.

Bo had a poor game & made alot of poor reads. However, a lot of dropped passes too.

I thought we would be much more physical upfront on the D line. Too many rushing yards for SFA. Also, thought special teams gave up too many return yards.

It could have been much worse, check out U of Virginia losing to William & Mary.
Surprised not more upsets in week 1.

Its nice to be going into game 2 with a 1-0 record.

I will agree with you there, now its time for June to earn his money and make the adjustments and go beat UAB..at least we got a W..we are taking baby steps, we beat a FCS school....now lets see how we do on the road against a cruddy FBS school...I know they beat Rice pretty good, but Rice is probably going to be awful this year..they lost everyone...UAB does not have a good team....we should be able to compete against them...if the players and coaches are up to the challenge.

papa, that all sounds good now, but you wouldn't be saying any of it if their kicker doesn't choke and miss a chip shot that he makes 9 of 10 times easily. Between the hashes, we did essentially lose that game. Or you can certainly say that SFA did enough to win that game. Had we beaten TCU in that manner, or even Tulsa or Houston, I would be thrilled and take it to the bank. Beating Stephen F that way, ugh.
