Question

Postby GoRedGoBlue » Mon Sep 07, 2009 9:43 am

Ok, if you take away your disappointment as to BLM performance, and that we were playing a Div1aa team DURING this disappointment...

As a football game ONLY:

Was this an exciting game to watch?

Was it exciting to see SMU come back and win, and then nail the coffin late (though they should have done that from the 37 yard line after the earlier INT / run out of the clock rather than allow SFA a late FG try)...

My point is, with NEAR sell out attendance and with many JR / SOPH recruits, from the perspective of a 16 year old, was it at least MORE impressive than a late season 10k fan attendance game?

everytime a pick or first down was made, if the recruits got a little excited, any emotion, its a good thing.

To be honest I kind of had the same feeling as I have in the past after a loss. I did expect a better showing.

However, what must be considered is that we won the first game of the year in several years. We broke our losing streak. Now we have a chance next week to break our road game losing streak, our conference losing streak, our Div 1A losing streak, all in one. Then the next week go for the BCS losing streak elimination.

I'm with mrydel. I know JJ says take away the short drives and SFA didnt have a TD...but for me the bubble burst when we couldnt move the ball, then threw the pick, then went down 7-0 to S F friggin A. At that moment, my arms were folded across my chest and I was shaking my head....just like every other loss the last several years.

If it was so exciting to barely beat a Division 1AA team why did 50% of the crowd leave early. It was a painful experience even for the real fans.

We should have never been in a position to outscore SFA 17-0 in the fourth quarter to win the game. Heck, I'm not even confident that we can get to my predicted record of 4-8. That was a mess.

The game and the presentation were messes. I'm thankful for the win, but did not come away satisfied.

Almost 48 hours later, I still feel like we lost. It was hard to watch and dashed my expectations for the year.

Unfortunately I concur...

I keep thinking about SFA's missed FG and what might have been the "real" start to the season!

My thoughts too. Before that missed FG I was wondering what JJ would say in his post game press conference. Pretty sure it would've been yet another new low losing that game, but fortunately it didn't happen. Hopefully this was truly just an off game for the QB and in a few weeks we can look back on this as nothing more.

The big crowd surely helped a little with recruiting, but the atmosphere was still dead. With it being a close game that included the punt return and the INTs, it was somehow far from exciting. I guess it was just that nervousness of "here we go again" as we struggled in a game where we were 20 pt favorites...

as disappointing as this was (because I secretly hoped we would blow these guys out and "hang 50 on them"), I will confess it was an exciting win...like you say...beating ANYONE these days is good for SMU. I will gladly take as many more of these "ugly" wins these guys can produce this year...even if they are done "cardiac" style.

just score 1 more point than the opponent and accomplish that within 60 minutes.

as Jones said long before this season started, fans will tolerate losing games 48-45 as long as we are competitive and exciting...for a while...as long as we are recruiting and building the caliber of team we need to compete at a top 25 level
