Eye on future opponents: Washington StateWashington State Falls to Stanford, 39-13
PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) - Freshman quarterback Andrew Luck made an impressive debut Saturday, leading Stanford to a 39-13 victory over Washington State. Luck threw for 193 yards and Toby Gerhart and Chris Owusu each scored two touchdowns for Stanford (1-0, 1-0 in Pac-10). Washington State was able to move the ball under senior quarterback Kevin Lopina. But the offense sputtered when Marshall Lobbestael replaced Lopina in the second and fourth quarters as part of an ongoing battle for the starting job. Stanford took control early in the second quarter and led 22-3 at halftime. Lopina threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to a leaping Jared Karstetter on the first drive of the second half. But Owusu returned the ensuing kickoff 85 yards to put Stanford back in charge at 29-10. Luck, the son of former NFL quarterback Oliver Luck, beat out veteran Tavita Pritchard before the season. He completed 11 of 23 passes, with one touchdown, and did not turn the ball over. Gerhart rushed 23 times for 121 yards. Stanford scored on its first possession on Gerhart's 1-yard run. He ran in the conversion and Stanford led 8-0. The Cougars answered with an impressive 78-yard drive to Stanford's 1, but were stopped on three plays and Nico Grasu's 21-yard field goal attempt was wide right. Grasu connected on a 44-yard field goal on WSU's next possession, cutting Stanford's lead to 8-3. Luck threw a short pass to Owusu on the next series, and he ran 63 yards for a touchdown and a 15-3 lead. Stanford went 88 yards on its next possession, with Jeremy Stewart running the final 12 for a 22-3 lead. This was the only conference game scheduled the first two weeks of the season. Stanford beat WSU 58-0 last season, with Gerhart rushing for four touchdowns. http://wsucougars.cstv.com/sports/m-foo ... 09aaa.html

Re: Eye on future opponents: Washington StateGetting stomped by Stanford is not like getting stomped by USC. On the other hand, this is the same team that beat Washington who scared the daylights out of LSU. For us, no opponent can be taken lightly as last weekend showed.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: Eye on future opponents: Washington Stateill flip a quarter for this game
Re: Eye on future opponents: Washington StateWSU 42 SMU 23
Re: Eye on future opponents: Washington StateI think this game will be a huge indicator of how our season will pan out. The mental lift of beating a BCS team, albeit a lousy one, would be tremendous. Correct me if I'm wrong but that hasn't happened since KU?
Not that that W really changed much. SMU 35 WSU 28 We've never lost the tailgate.
Re: Eye on future opponents: Washington StateIf BLM rebounds, and we can score >30 pts, we have a good chance at this one.
Re: Eye on future opponents: Washington StateWe will have a chance in this game. However, even the most optomistic fans can't be too thrilled about the rest of the season. Offensively we have found a runner but I'm concerned that our WR's and QB haven't made that jump we have all been hearing about this offseason.
Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: Eye on future opponents: Washington Statelove that pic of Ford
thank you Gerald Ford and all who made it happen sure wish we had a facility like that when I was at SMU
Re: Eye on future opponents: Washington State
We just gotta stop that little inside trap. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBkZO6WQ278
Re: Eye on future opponents: Washington Statewe need to raise the $$$ to dress up Wescott; SMU really does have a beautiful campus
start winning some games, get more stud recruits on campus and this thing WILL get turned around
Re: Eye on future opponents: Washington State
If I ever start making a seven-figure salary, I will personally donate a large sum of money to dress up Wescott. Unfortunately, a seven-figure salary looks like it's about 40 years down the road, if it ever happens.
