Marges Hunt

Postby Pony94 » Sun Sep 06, 2009 11:13 am

So I tried to keep an eye on several players during the game, including DJ and Marges Hunt. It is pretty easy to spot Marges on the sideline, standing a foot taller than some of our guys! He doesnt seem to mind if he is behind everyone, he still has a great view....(how I wish I had that problem). While Marges was used sparingly (I may have missed some plays), I was intrigued by his play. Not because he did anything spectacular, but because if they can teach this guy the basics, he could be really good. On one particular play late in the game, he rushed the QB and pushed his lineman three yards into the backfield and then was standing right next to the QB. Unfortunately, he didnt realize the QB had the ball and ran the other way. That kid is strong.

Thoughts?

The man is a monster but it is going to take a while to go from zero football skill to DI-A football skill.

Got close to blocking a couple of punts. Had he just stuck his hand up, he may have blocked them.

This year, if Margus can get in there and just wear down the O-line while giving Thompson a chance to refresh, I'll call it a win. The major concern I have is that future opponents will identify a glaring problem with his play that they can exploit for a major gain when he comes in.

I focused on him-looked lost on a couple of plays. Don't see him contributing much at all this season. He is perfectly suited for that flank blocking position though on FG formation..

on the play right before sfa attempted a field goal he looked at the qb and turned away even though the qb had it on the keeper...also, why don't they have them on the fg block team?

He is real strong and when he finally gets it ( footballwise) he will have so much fun and we can watch him really physically blossom. I watched a few plays where he looked lost and didn't know what to do and who to attack but also saw a few plays that he pushed at least two and once three guys away from him but then he looked lost again....I agree give him time. He is young and will learn as the line coaches here are good teachers.....

If he just stuffs a lineman on every play- he might accidentally knock down a QB or a running back or cause the lineman to step on someone's ankle, or perhaps open a hole for a blitz. Put him in on a goal line or 4th down an one situation and he might be a good contributor.

I tried to watch him some too.
Seemed very upright the plays I watched, but I expected that. Good for him to get his first game action.
It will be fun to see what we have down the road.

He did appear lost some times. When they went with no huddle you could tell he didn't know he had to get down quickly. Now that they have him on film in a game they can show him what he did and didn't do as well as what Taylor did and didn't do. He knows a whole lot more today than he did Saturday afternoon. It will be fun to watch him develop.

I'm a fellow countryman of Margus and also happen to be the coach of the only football team in Estonia. Thus I'm very interested in how Margus is doing and would really appreciate if you could continue to post about how much playing time he got and what/how he did on the field. I read from another topic that he did play against WSU a couple of downs and recordid his first (?) tackle. Did he also play against UAB?
Also I'v understood from other topics that it is possible to watch SMU games online even if they are not shown nationally. Are these games on CBS College Sports XXL, or some other place?

try smumustangs.com .....that web page gives a lot of free information....you can go to the directory of names, telephone numbers and email addresses...for that you can direct your questions to specific people...there is information on internet access to most games...are there more prospects?as you can tell smu looks like they need defensive linemen....
