Can anyone tell me what Sanders was thinking when he stopped McNeal from going in to score?

We almost found out exactly what he was thinking after the score. Essentially, SFA got a second chance for at least a tie in a game that was essentially over since it was only an 8 point ballgame. Score came at 1:31. SMU would have had a first down. Multiply :25 clock times 4 plus 3-4 plays which would have been taking a knee plus about 5-6 seconds times 4 to set the ball for play. GAME OVER.

SFA was letting us score intentionally. If McNeal had taken a knee, we could have taken two snaps, kneeling, and the game would have been over. By scoring, we had to give them the ball back with 1:30 on the clock and a chance to tie. If you watch the run again pay attention to the DBs and how they turn their backs and the one guy that dives from about 5 yards away. Kind of comical really.

Gads! Even the YouTube vid is choppy and grainy.

Couldn't this have been done in HQ at least?

Doesn't look like the game I watched at all, as these were few and far between.

As I watched the rest of the game I only remember anxiety and angst!

Nice to see the fuzzy all-access video again. Strange that while Sanders tried to slow up Mcneil on that last td run to burn the clock out but doesn't even hang around to congratulate him.

Because SFA wanted us to score does not equate that what SMU did was a mistake.

SFA had their agenda.....SMU had their agenda.

You guys always assume the worst....the other guy must be right and we must be wrong
"well if SFA wanted/let us score then by golly it MUST BE a mistake for us to score.

We score a touchdown....and it "sucks"
We win and it "sucks"
We have a sellout and it "sucks".....blah blah

Stallion and the boo birds want to always pretend SMU is in the wrong.

Stallion says if McNeal takes a knee "oh we "coulda" run out the clock",
Stallion says "but by McNeal scoring SFA "COULD HAVE" tied or won
yeah they "COULD HAVE".....if's and buts

Yeah IF they can march the field...AND IF they get the two point conversion

IF IF IF....lots of ifs to paint SMU in a bad light.

Did not happen

But Stallion wants to paint SMU as the idiots.....Stallion doesn't want to hear the other possible "if's"

"IF" SMU doesn't score....McNeal takes the knee.... What "if" Bo fumbles a snap while trying to run out the clock, SFA gets a TD and we lost the freaking game in regulation!

There would be hell to pay from the Stallion Boo Birds.....they would be screaming "OH MY GOD why, why, why did McNeal take a knee????????"...."at least we coulda taken it to over-time"....."instead we lost in regulation".....Stallion would be screaming don't these Bozos know the golden rule to never takes points off the board!

i don't mind taking the td there, it made the score look more respectable and less like SFA missed an easy fg to win. Like someone else said, if we could not hold an 8 point lead with 2 mins left against SFA, well jokes on us. The point responded to was the point of celebrating. somebody criticized Sanders for not staying and celebrating the score. Fine, take the score because you know the situation and the coach wants the points. Don't celebrate like you don't know what just happened, like 95% of the SMU fans apparently.

I admit it! I celebrated wildly when we scored! I know some of you are thinking, "Stupid guy! Celebrating an SMU touchdown!" Sorry. 54 years of watching SMU football and I still haven't learned how to sit on my hands and moan when we do something right.
