I think everyone was just simply cheering for him, not hyping him up. There is a difference.
AZ, given the uniqueness of the situation (his Mom posting so much) there is some truth to what you are saying; I know I was cheering for him. But to the bigger point, Stallion is dead on. We sign these marginal players and 3/4ths of the board goes Rah Rah Rah. Do you realize that per Otto's thread under "Recruiting", only 3 of our 18 commitments have BCS offers…O’Guin, Parks and Kaiser…and Rivals does not even show Kaiser with a BCS offer? That does not bode well for our program, regardless of who the HC is.
And just who the hell wanted Colt Brennan when Jones got him? Jones has a fairly good track record on these type players.

Joey Fontana had multiple BCS offers including Nebraska.
Darius Johnson had multiple BCS offers including Boston College.
A team full of Joey Fontana's and Darius Johnson's will would make anyone here excited.
A team full of Joey Fontana's and Darius Johnson's go bowling and make our HC look like a genius.
You are missing the point entirely.
Stallion is DEAD ON with his opinion of you as well.

I am not sure how to break this news to you. But we have to start winning with what we've got to get better players. Players with multiple BCS offers are not going to choose a program that has not had a winning season in 20+ years. I think Jones is getting us some kids who might be slightly better than previous coaches, but in the long run, he's got to win with the kids he gets. Would I like to see us beat UT or A&M head to head? Of course. But first, I'd like to see us beat TCU, Tulsa and Rice for players. To do that, we have to dance with the girl we brung and win with what we have. JJ is the best coach for us to do that. Once we start winning, we can get better players. Evan Huahula didn't work out, which is a shame. But when you have the worst team in college football, you have to roll the dice and hope that some of these players turn out sevens. Until then, we have to win the old fashioned way.

Anyone who thinks we need only BCS kids to win or compete is a fool. Go onto Scout OR Rivals and look at Hawaii's commitments under Jones since 2002. Almost all 2 Star recruits, and now look at Hawaii's Win-Loss Record. The two outputs demonstrate a minimal connection when it comes to June Jones ability to evaluate talent and overall record. Would it be nice to get mostly three, four and five star recruits? Hell yea! Is it necessary? No Go through each year: http://hawaii.scout.com/a.z?s=219&p=9&c=4&yr=2003

I'm interested to know who on this roster you think is better than Josh McCown, ShanDerrick Charles, Emmanuel Sanders, Justin Rogers, or Kevin Garrett?

The bottom line is that marginal recruits and kids who really aren't cut out for D-1A football are just anchors at this point. The program is going in the right direction, but players like these are slowing us down. The goal of getting 4/5 star commitments regularly is just fictional. Our true goal should be minimizing the frauds in the program and getting commitments from guys who are WANTED by other legitimate programs.

Shawnbrey McNeal is one. But those are only 5 players. Give me a list of 25 players that went 4 years and after the first few classes goes through 4 years we will see.

Quotes regarding the 2010 class:
"the class we have coming in is the best in a long long" June Jones
"All in all I have no problem in someone calling this the best class since the DP" Stallion

Az1, you pull out the names of the best players we got. You forgot about Eric Dickerson and Doak Walker. How about the other 10 players who were on the field with them? I vaguely remember Josh McCown couldn't complete a pass because the line couldn't stop anyone from sacking him repeatedly. Great player but only if he has a few players around him. And btw look how good the Cardinals got AFTER he left. Justin Rogers getting double teamed because other linemen couldn't get the job done. My point is that the talent on this team right now is slightly better OVERALL than in years past. I go by speed figures and size. Let's see if they can beat 1-11 this year.

ES,
NOBODY is proposing we compete with UT or A&M for players….that is a ridiculous argument on your part.
I do however think we should be competing against a higher caliber school than Louisiana Monroe.
I am happy with June Jones. I think he gets the most out of his players….(funny how we got the most out of a UMiami RB last Saturday, but I digress).
He is being paid $2M a year. I defer to Stallion and HF Victory on recruiting, but I agree with their assessment.
JJ gets a C so far in my books on recruiting. I was expecting a lot more.

I could care less what your opinion of me is, I just know I believe and trust the words of June Jones, Jeff Reinebold and the other coaches more than a few KillJoy message board posters.
There is no doubt June Jones and company are Sunshiners and so everytime I'm called that I know I'm in good company!

He doesn't want to see FACTS like that!
He'd rather hammer Kaiser.

We really need to start hitting the JUCO and Transfer options, that is really the fastest way to rebuild programs.
Even McNeal stated that SMU still didn't accept most of his credits and had to go to double summer school sessions just to get to the point the NCAA would look at his eligibility.
I think things have changed, but we are still no where near the other teams in Conference USA...

Geez this is getting more news then justin willis quitting..
I wasn't going to comment because A. This kid was not the future of the program B. He was going to have no real impact on the team this year
Truth be told, JJ filled his first class with a lot of players who do not have the skills or potential to perform at the D1 level... A few people have mentioned Foy munlin and massey, as someone who saw both of them everyday in practice I will offer my opinion. 1. Massey was garbage, he was way too interested in running east and west 2. Foy was the kind of leader you wanted and had the best work ethic on the team... Unfortunately he had an injury and didn't have the speed we needed

What do you suggest we do? Maybe boo our new recruits?
Boo Joey Fontana? Boo Darius Johnson?
Hey maybe you're on to something, maybe our coaching staff just has not thought of offering 5 Star Recruits like Colt McCoy and they offer kids like Kasier instead.
Maybe we should only make offers to kids that Oklahoma, USC, and Texas are recruiting and see where that gets us!
colt McCoy was a mid 3 *. And i dont know why everyone is upset. JJ inherited the worst talent in the country. He had 2 weeks for his first recruiting class. SO in my opinion he has only had 1. Like i said during the summer. This is another 2-10 year for us. 2010 will be a 3-9, 4-8 or 5-7 at best year. Look for 2011 to be our first winning season under Jones. Which means he is a miracle worker. No other coach could take this team to a winning season and maybe division or conference championship in his 4th year at SMU except a small group of elite coaches ( like Urban Meyer, Nick Saban) JJ is the best guy for this job, But will need 4 years until we see results. BLM is not the QB to take us far. Next year we will have A redshirt Freshman and a true Freshman QB that will probably be able to take us to a bowl and have a 10 win season in 3-4 years but wont be ready yet. Once again we still wont have anything next year but young players. 2011!!
