From the DMNJune Jones: SMU can't lose intensity
12:15 AM CDT on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 By KATE HAIROPOULOS / The Dallas Morning News / The Dallas Morning News UNIVERSITY PARK – SMU (2-0, 1-0 Conference USA) is an early seven-point favorite over Washington State (0-2) despite not having won a nonconference road game since 1998, a span of 17 games. "We've got to play our rear ends off every game to win it, it doesn't matter who it is," coach June Jones said Monday. "It just happens to be this team has lost two games, but this team is as good as we are. If we don't play 60 minutes, the whole way, then it's going to be a dogfight, just like the last two. "That's how we're going to have to win right now." Jones said the Mustangs must correct mistakes offensively, specifically missing opportunities to "score a whole bunch more points." Briefly ... Receiver Emmanuel Sanders is the NCAA's current active career leader in touchdown catches. His 28 TDs are one more than Oklahoma State's Dez Bryant. ... SMU leads the nation in interceptions (9), which has helped make up for ranking 102nd in total defense (454 yards per game). ... Outside linebacker Youri Yenga is questionable for Saturday's game at Washington State with an ankle injury. Yenga is wearing a plastic cast and isn't expected to practice this week. ... Cornerback Derrius Bell is out after suffering a scary collision in last week's win over UAB that left him motionless. A full recovery is expected, and Bell should benefit from the bye week following the WSU game. ... Receiver Aldrick Robinson (ankle) is expected to play. ... Wide receiver Darius Johnson (clavicle) will remain out of action for several more weeks. Peruna is my mascot!
Re: From the DMNInjuries are hurting us already. Jones is right that the O has to improve its consistency.
SMU would be crazy to take this team (or any team) lightly.
Re: From the DMN
I could not agree more... I don't care if we are favored by 28 . . . we are too young to start reading headlines and thinking how good we "can" be! Sports, and all that implies.
Re: From the DMNAgreed. We can't take anyone lightly.

Re: From the DMN"Jones said the Mustangs must correct mistakes offensively,
specifically missing opportunities to "score a whole bunch more points" Ya think that is primarily directed at Bo or just a general statement about turnovers ect...? C-ya @ Milos!
Re: From the DMN
General statement. Bo may not be accurate because receivers run wrong routes. We will not know that level of detail as Jones isn’t going to announce to the world the reads and routes of our receivers. The line can improve running lanes for McNeal. The obvious is the number of dropped passes. This is a complex offense that is highly dependent on all players doing their job. I suspect the entire O can improve and take advantage of scoring opportunities.
