After he checks out of rehab, any chance he'll come coach SMU up and turn us into a Sweet 16 team like he did at Texas A&M?
Let me explain something to you. I am not "Mr. Lebowski". You're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me.

I wouldn't be opposed to the idea, but I just can't see that happening.

I think he now officially qualifies as a "big name" coach with how bad he screwed up Kentucky. So he probably fits into the Steve O coaching profile!
We already brought in one guy who couldn't win at a perennial hoops powerhouse, so why not bring in another guy who couldn't win at a prestigious program?!?

I still wish he would've been an SMU hire several years ago, but doubtful it's going to happen after the rehab stint. Doesn't help that the university currently doesn't even support SMU-colored beer cans these days...

Don't forget that CUSA is the "resurrection" league for coaches who have had some questionable personal issues, both in BBall and football. I wouldn't mind Billy Clyde here at all...but I seriously doubt it will happen. I personally think he's a better coach and recruiter than Doh...but Doh is a better politician and used car salesman.

At one time I was on board with the thought of Gillespie as a strong candidate to replace Doh but not anymore.
My top candidate last season was Reggie Theus & he remains my top choice. Recently hired as an asst. coach with the TWolves.

I am in favor of anyone who can recruit local players or Texas players for that matter. Doherty seems to be wasting a lot of time flying around the country playing grab-ass when the State of Texas and D/FW has great players. I cannot wait to hear about Doherty's next golf round on Twitter....give me a break and shut up already.

I'm sure we'll get a million tweets about how he's at MJ's Hall of Fame induction this weekend....but at least he went and saw a recruit first!

I wouldn't touch Gillespie with a 20 foot pole.....the NCAA would be right behind him...I heard some stupid stuff come out of A & M about him when he was there from some of the bball players down there.....he was involved with at least one of the students/girls on the volleyball team and it was not reported but I am sure he was one step from NCAA snoops....

I don't know. Sometimes I wonder if it isn't necessary to do things that might not be "ethical" in order to jumpstart a program, and allow you to eventually compete without doing things that might be considered shady.

It's sad, but I agree with that statement. You hate to think of it that way, but to truly compete on an even playing field, that includes finding every possible loophole to NCAA rules and then bending or even breaking a rule here or there. I know it's much easier said then done, but it seems like that's the only way to get a flailing program back on track.

I know Scott Drew's performance at Baylor has been discussed quite a bit on this board. Nothing has even been pinned on him, yet it seems almost impossible that he can land the recruits he's been getting without cheating in one way or another. But as long as nothing can be proved, he has been pretty darn successful!

Two rules in the NCAA...
1) If you ain't cheatin, you ain't tryin
2) It's only cheating if you get caught

Some interesting points but Gillespie's personality is far different from Scott Drew as Drew is a real personable and likeable guy and a good front for the university. Gillespie is kind of creepy and Coach Doh is real personable but his ability to have his players really play for him is still in question. This year is the make or break one for him.

I like the idea of Theus, but he operates in grey areas. Not sure the powers that be would have it. I'm not proud, so I'm thinking profile assistant maybe off Barnes staff like Russell Springman. Time to make this a launching pad position, not a last chance destination.
