I'm sure gsp can be a good father, husband, and employee even if he spends hours on p-fans just like the rest of us, just like I'm sure JJ can be a good coach and tweet one minute every other day.

Apparently some folks who don't tweet have people who created feaux twitter accounts and are posting bogus random stuff. Jeff Schultz of the Capitals had that happen (and it would figure since he is one player who most Caps fans love to hate - hint he's huge, clumsy and doesn't hit anyone).
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

but who cares, it's obvious they'll never be happy anyway.

Are you kidding me June? I have NEVER heard a coach say something like that. It's not acceptable to me. It sets and encourages a standard of mediocrity. You want that thought in your players ears?

So when we get punched in the mouth in the first quarter against East Carolina, everyone has a nice easy out. "Maybe we don't need to fight back, this must have been one of those tough games June was talking about. I don't feel so bad now. " bull**it.

Or is June so in touch with all of you who want nothing more than for this team to improve enough so that it could be considered mediocre?

A coach that I dearly admire got himself smacked in the mouth pretty good last weekend. His quote: "You set the bar at where you want to be and you do not give in until you get there".

It does sound very strange hearing a coach say he'll be happy if his team wins 2 out of the next 5, but I have no problem with that honesty. Obviously if they somehow win the 1st two, then it's not like they'll be content to lose the next 3. But this is a brutal stretch and so I think his needing to win 2 is a very reasonable goal. Of course he is going to prepare the team to try to win all 5, but if they are able to go 2-3 over that stretch then the goal of a bowl is still obtainable.

Every team should be out there trying to win every game, but I would rather hear about obtainable expectations when looking at a season or a stretch. It sure beats having smoke blown up our backsides and putting expectations like a 20 win basketball team in our heads last season. You're not going to go from doormat of college football to great overnight, so at some point mediocrity has to be a goal. Of course it's not the final goal, but it is a goal that has to be met before reaching the ultimate goal of being a great team.

Disagree...we have four very winnable games to close the season. I don't like our chances against Marshall, but, nonetheless, it's a winnable game. I know that you, for some reason, think we have no chance to beat UTEP. That's just crazy.

Number one choice would be the Liberty Bowl, because that would mean we are Conference Champions, but aside from that I think other CUSA bowls would be better.

IF we go to a bowl, I would love for it to be one of the CUSA bowls where we are up against a team from a BCS conference (St. Petersburg bowl vs. Big East or Texas Bowl vs. Big 12). Also, these bowls have a much higher payout than the Hawaii bowl.

The Hawaii bowl would probably be a big money loser for us and travel for the few fans that we have would be much more difficult.

A few things -

Liberty Bowl probably will not take us...they have the first choice but are not bound to taking the conference champion. I could see them passing over us for a team like Southern Miss.

Texas Bowl is Big XII vs. Navy this year with CUSA as the backup on both sides of the agreement. So it would be CUSA vs. Big XII only if Navy is not eligible. The other side of the matchup, if the Big XII is not eligible, is CUSA vs. Navy; SMU plays Navy in the regular season so I don't expect the rematch to happen.

St. Petersburg Bowl is far away from the alumni base and in a baseball stadium. It would not be a successful place for us to have a bowl game.

Hawaii Bowl is a homecoming for JJ so the game will more than likely sell out if we play there. Ideally I think the Armed Forces Bowl would be the best bowl for us to go to but I am certain that JJ/Steve-O and Co. will choose the Hawaii Bowl if it is an option, which I guarantee it will be if we are eligible to be selected.

I remember when Phil said we were going to win the conference his first year.

I doubt it will sell out. Hawaii played Notre Dame in the Hawaii bowl last year and it did not sell out.

Notre Dame doesn't have the same sort of pull on the islands as they do here. They also aren't coached by one of the most loved sports figures in Hawaii history - June Jones

Are you saying there are no catholics on the islands? The game has a chance to sell out if its SMU vs. Hawaii, but do you really think SMU vs. Idaho will sell out?

All other things being equal, if we are bowl eligible, I'd rather have a shot at a BCS team in a bowl than a WAC team. Brings more visibility to the program, especially with a win (think 1998 Sun Bowl when TCU beat USC).

From a selfish standpoint, I would be able to attend a bowl game on the mainland, but not one in Hawaii - already been to Hawaii once this year and I doubt I will be able to afford to go back.

Not saying there are no Catholics on the islands. However, ND does not have a large following on the islands. I grew up in South Texas and am Catholic. I followed ND; no one else in my church did. Not every Catholic is a Notre Dame fan.

SMU vs. Hawaii will sell out; SMU vs. Idaho...eh, maybe 30,000 fans will be there; in the case of SMU vs. Idaho I guarantee most people in the stands will be cheering for SMU.

I agree with you re:beating a BCS program, but I'm not sure if we have a good bowl game in which to do that this year. Perhaps the EagleBank Bowl vs. ACC if Army isn't eligible.

However I am pretty certain that JJ, Steve-O and Co will accept a Hawaii Bowl offer

I'm not arguing with you - I actually agree that we would take the Hawaii bowl if offerred. I just wonder if that would be the best move, especially fiscally. The Hawaii bowl payout is small compared to other bowls and the cost to go is high.

Probably wouldn't be the best move, but I suppose it's better than not going to any bowl
