Not to beat up on him personally. Probably a great kid.

However, he has had his chances. I see little progress dating back to last season. If JJ offense is so complex it takes an inordinate time to master then perhaps its not well suited to this level of play.
Yes, he had some success at Hawaii but he also had better athletes.

Who knows. I am not optimistic. I see NO IMPROVEMENT from last year whatsoever. NONE.

Long season. We shall see. I hope BLM can get it together. The fear is that he will have another two seasons to show "improvement" and the program will be nowhere.

I can only go by the SFA game -- others who have watched the other two in person can confirm or correct me -- but I said after the SFA game that Mitchell's problem is that he locks onto his first target and rarely checks down for the second/third option.

If that trend has continued through Games 2 and 3, then it would be pretty easy to see how things go sideways in the fourth quarter. Again, this is speculation. However, if a quarterback is not making the adjustments during the game, then he is going to get beat.

Strange as this sounds, I agree with both sides of this argument.

BLM is holding this team back, the interceptions are more than an inconvenience, they are costing us wins. He needs to be riding the pine. He's not ready.

But he can't. There's no one else. The players behind him would be even worse.

The failing is not Bo's. He's doing what he can. The failing is not JJ's coaching, he's playing his best option. The failure is that they have not recruited a better option.

I think that's a big excuse for not getting the job done. I especially think that is a big excuse when we hired a 2 million a year coach who is a QBs dream. SMU has much much more goin' for us than just about any CUSA team. For a QB (or WR) throw in the fact they can set "world records" in statistics. In 2009, we should easily outrecruit every school in our conference based upon location, facilities, educational opportunities, campus, commitment to coaching staff and reputation and prior performance of coaching staff. Which school in CUSA West beats SMU under that criteria. If we are going to claim that we are now on a competitive playing field, SMU needs to stop relying on 1990 excuses. In particular, if we can't be more competitive in recruiting DFW area then we need to hire someone who can-see UH with 8 3 star commitments from Greater Houston area.

Also, see UH with bowl games in 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008. This argument is irrelevant because we are TERRIBLE. Who wants to play for a team who won 0 games in 2003, 1 game in 2007, 1 game in 2008? The answer is not many legitimate players. We have to win with what we have before we can expect to make big jumps in recruiting.

If your qb isn't that spectacular, you sure as hell don't keep airing it out when you are UP BY 3 SCORES.

Yes but in the 4th quarter when you are still up by 7 points, why not protect that lead, run the ball a few times, kick a field goal, run the clock out and win. A "W" is a lot better than 7 more points!
