That looks like complete @$$. I guess it doesn't surprise me - some famous architects are often more interested in creating "art" and making something THEY like rather than delivering what the client really needs and wants.

I wonder if SMU has any more say about architecture than it did about the inclusion of the Dubya Policy Cheerleading Institute? Probably not, but hey at least we got a presidential liberry and that is prestigious enough without worrying about whether it is an eyesore.

I agree. It looks like something Albert Speer did in his spare time with or without the bricks.

Judge Hoffman recused himself in the Vodicka/Tafel case before ruling on SMU's motion to enforce the settlement agreement. This thing will go on forever.

Agreed. It looks like a cross between Meadows and an avant-garde mental institution.

Not a very impressive statement about the quality of the Yale school of architecture...and he is now dean of the school.

That tall square section in the middle of the building seems to be a theme that he likes. As shown here in one of his other master pieces.

SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Here's a thread I found discussing some dorms he designed elsewhere, with pics. More flat straight lines that look just like the fire station project I'm involved in right now.

Doesn't seem like the guy I'd pick for the ornate historical style of SMU...... http://www.savewright.org/wright_chat/viewtopic.php?t=3557&sid=bca4f79720798bcae3bcbc583780626f

Combine that with this quote from him:
"Our greatest responsibility is not to be pencils of the past."
I think we're going to be in for an .............. interesting library design.

Here are more looks at some of Stern's designs. Some are tasteful, while others are...well, I'll let you decide:

Some of the Stern designs look just fine. Hopefully that means we really did see an early discarded concept idea.

Retired Collin County judge assigned to Vodicka/Tafel case.

This should be good news for most ponyfans inasmuch as a Collin County judge typcially gets elected on his conservative political views.

I really wish they would've let HHS do this. They did Simmons, Embrey, and now Caruth. Among other things they've done for the University (including Master Planning...).

That's terrible Photoshop work. I visited the Clinton Library last July. The area around it looks NOTHING like that photo. Grade: F
