The next year in 1990 Houston played us at Owenby. David Klingler was QB. The playbook that week was titled "Beat the B@$%@#%$" Midway through the 2nd half Houston was ahead by probably 28 points and one of their receivers stepped out of bounds right in front of Coach Gregg. He grabbed the receiver by the back of his shoulder pads and said, "you tell your coach over there if he doesn't take Klingler out the next series, I will do it myself".

Next series Klinger sat the pine the rest of the game.

Stallion I agree with you about Jenkins.

I was @ the '89 game with my father. I only saw him cry once in his entire life. It was not on this day. He carried his head high as we walked out of the 'Dome in Houston and he said to me, "Son. There will be a reckoning of this day and we'll be there to see it." We were both at Ownby in '92. And Dad smiled.

I was at both too and I really relished the revenge game in '92. I heard that the team played one of those freaky sirens for the team in the locker room to get them fired up.

I don't know if I was the first, but I was definitely in the first few ping pong balls that pelted the Houston bench at the end of the 1992 game. Those guys acted clueless as to why we were so belligerent with them. And everybody was ripping David Klingler's brother during the game..."Kliiinglller...Kliiinglller...."

University police came up to make sure nothing crazy was going to happen...I asked one of them, "you really think these jackasses don't deserve every bit of hell they are receiving right now?"

He replied, "Nope...as long as you don't do anything totally stupid, I'm deaf, mute, and blind. They @#$%&! deserve it. We are just here to keep them outta the stands."

I always respected the SMU police more after that. Really did.

But he'll never be as big a [deleted] as Jenkins. When we came back and beat them a few years later, that might have been my favorite SMU game EVER.

I also became a huge Jerry Glanville fan the day after that game, when he took to the national TV airwaves and ripped UH for beating up on a bunch of freshmen and then sent the game ball to Coach Gregg. Glanville was wacky as can be, but that was one of the coolest moves ever by a coach.

Glanville had a memory also. A few years later he was coaching the Atlanta Falcons and beat up on the Pardee coached Oilers. Of Glanville it was said that he would rather have been six feet tall than a Superbowl winning coach, but you had to love some of the things he did.

Glanville was being considered for the head coach job @ Sam Houston State 3 years ago. Wish they had hired him instead of Todd Whitten (former SFA QB & Tarleton State HC).

That 92 win against UH was definately one of the best wins in the early years after the DP. How many times have we beaten UH since? I know that we did back in '05 in Houston.

Alex is right about Coach Gregg as I was at the 1989 game along with the General and others. At the end of the 1st half Houston called timeout with less than 10 seconds left to try to hail mary plays into the endzone and they were already way ahead. Once clock reached 0:00 Coach Gregg went balistic and tried to go after Pardee. My group all watched his reaction and how he was standing up for our kids. He eventually got to Pardee at the end of the game.

1992 game was indeed proud moment and one of our highlights post DP. I would rank that up there with the A & M game in Alamodome which was a tie when A & M was highly ranked.

I have despised Pardee and Jenkins ever since that game. Obviously they had/have no class.

However, I enjoy Glanville. He is one of those coaches who speaks his mind and marches to a different tune. I wish he would have come to SMU with JJ.

GO PONIES!!!

While Jenkins is a classless clown, the full brunt of that falls on the head coach Jack Pardee. It was his watch and his team and he kept the foot on the gas the entire game. Not saying taking a knee in the 3rd quarter, but run the ball, don't pass. And calling a timeout with ten seconds left to try a pass into the endzone to break 100 is so wrong on so many levels. '92 was sweet. I'd like to see SMU this year leave two teams with 11-1 records, TCU and Houston.

Are John Jenkins and 2112 related? They both talk/write the same.

Yes.

I was sitting in a bar watching another game on ESPN or some station and they scrolled the final score and had the Cougs winning 41-16. It was kind of funny because I guess whoever is control of putting the scores up just couldn't believe we beat them.

Since 1989, UH has never won more than three games in a row against SMU. The Cougars have won three games in a row and will be going for a fourth on October 24 at Robertson Stadium.
