Re: it makes me nauseousI wasn't the one trying to make Willis a Heisman candidate, that was Orsini and SMU. you are actually helping making my point though. If BLM ain't the future, then last year was a complete waste of a year, and this year may not be much more as we waste Shawnbrey and Sanders. As imperfect as Willis might have been, he was a competitor and had some legit experience. And he was coachable by all accounts, even jj said so. He would have been a better bridge to the future than the BLM experiment. Forget Willis if he is such a lightning rod for you, the lack of a juco or transfer who would have been eligible this year are whats missing big time.
Re: it makes me nauseousHey its healthy to get all this feedback from new and old posters and even the 'naysayers' will be able to eat their words when things are better...its all in print and we will remind them of their negativity when its time....
Re: it makes me nauseous
let's not forget FordtoTolbert. To think he sacrificed what might have been a "Top 25 poster" status by doing so...ah, the tragedy of it.
Re: it makes me nauseouswow, I didn't think we were going to have an Ex-lax [deleted] storm of the week since it was a bye, but then again when has that stopped us from whining before?

Re: it makes me nauseous
We won 6 in '06. I'm not buying we were "threadbare." Missed a bowl by about two yards if I'm not mistaken. CSU was just one example.
Re: it makes me nauseousif you look over a 3-5 year perspective-there was about 3 straight years where Bennett was really treading water in recruiting-he had a real penchant for recruiting players who were to small, too slow to play the position they were recruited for. That being said there is even more drag on the program when about 20 players are run off or leave the program in one calandar year. From that perspective it was a total rebuild. The criticism might be though that June really doesn't get high marks for inspiring and developing the players on the roster-that's part of job and I can't see how your going to have a miracle turnaround by bleeding the roster like has been done.

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
Re: it makes me nauseouskeep in mind also im sure many people (including myself) have followed smu athletics and lurked the board for years before signing up for an account
Re: it makes me nauseousLA,
I feel your pain, however; I do like the direction our program is headed. Would like it a lot more if we were competing now for recruits from schools other than LA Monroe. Right before half-time of last weeks game...I was about to submit the following post.. "Be afraid TCU....be very afraid"......that post is not about next week...I suspect we will lose...but a warning to TCU this program is finally headed in the right direction. After WSU last scoring drive before half, I decided against posting. That is called wisdom that comes with age.
Re: it makes me nauseousI do not see any advantage to having used Willis last year when he did not know the system. If JJ had changed his system to compenstae for Willis, maybe he gets 4 wins. And then he has to start the rebuild all over again and we are a year behind where we are now. I agree with Stallion that this was chosen to be a compete rebuild and that is what I think we needed. Rebuild the team, the fans, the culture, the attitudes, etc. I for one am tired of losing. There is not a lot of difference to me in a 1 win season and a 4 win season other than my wife appreciates my company 3 nights more with one than the other. I want 10 win seasons and I am willing to wait a few more years to get there if it is done properly.

Re: it makes me nauseousMrydel,
If his intention was indeed to "rebuild" and therefore cast aside JWill, I give JJ a failing grade. For 2 years in a row, we are reliant on BLM with absolutely ZERO back-up plan. Next year we have a player who was primarily a back-up at New Mexico State as his only real competition. For someone making $2M for his RnS expertise, it is disappointing to say the least.
Re: it makes me nauseousSometimes people don't laugh at me when I wear my SMU cap...
Re: it makes me nauseousWe have to play with the cards we are dealt. Willis by his own admission could not pick up the system. JJ was not going to change his career of teaching to accomodate one person. Yes, BLM was his only option. I believe he had relied too strongly on getting Kraft and got caught short. But we do not get to draft QBs, and we have seen what happens when you pay for them. QBs for the most part have pretty big egos. They want to be the star and when they look at 1-10, 1-10, they tend to drift to other schools. When the tide begins to turn, I honestly believe JJ will attract some top notch QB talent to fit his system. Until then we have to rebuild what took 20 years to destroy. I think that Padron, and McDermott, and hopefully Kaiser will all be competitive with each other and push or pass BLM. That will make the team better. But it will be the real sign of turn around when we start getting the pipeline of top QB talent lined up on the roster.

And when they do laugh, realize it might not be the cap. So to be safe, always wear it. That way you can assume they are laughing at the cap. ![]() All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand

Re: it makes me nauseous
Mrydel, I think you are being too kind in your evaluation...a nice trait to have, but not when dissecting SMU fb. Next year will be Yr 3 of 5 for JJ reign and the QB competition will be BLM vs McDermott....not good. I do hope that JJ plans on staying longer.
