Mavericks to Use S.M.U. Practice FacilitiesSo, the Dallas Mavericks will be using S.M.U.'s facilities for their training camp. Here's a paragraph from the article:
Facilities. Not every NBA team has a practice facility built for the specific demands of training camp. With so many players on the early roster, it's handy to have extra courts -- that's why the Mavericks have gotten comfortable at SMU. http://www.nba.com/2009/news/features/s ... /28/camps/ Doesn't Mark Cuban have more $$$ than God and can't he build a facility for the Mavericks himself? Maybe I'm missing something but S.M.U. is providing a facility for Dallas' PRO BASKEBALL TEAM that takes REVENUE and FANS away from the Mustangs. A facility meant for THE MUSTANGS, not the Mavericks. A facility that was built with $$$ from S.M.U. supporters, not Mavericks supporters. Did Mark Cuban throw any $$$ into its construction? If I'm wrong, will someone please shed some light on the subject for me? Thanks.
Re: Mavericks to Use S.M.U. Practice FacilitiesI don't know whether he put any money into it, but I imagine it is a pretty big feather in SMU's cap on the recruiting trail to say you will be able to rub elbows with pro players every fall.
The donkey's name is Kiki.
On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney? Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.
Re: Mavericks to Use S.M.U. Practice FacilitiesI don't see any negative in this at all. It is the best publicity we can get for Crum and if this facility is indeed the recruiting tool it's supposed to be, this is the best way to advertise it to the recruits.
As for the Mavs taking fans and revenue away from SMU, I doubt that is the case today. The casual basketball fan is not going to choose between a Mavs game and an SMU game -- they are going to go to the Mavs game unless a team like Memphis is in town. It would definitely be nice if SMU would try to schedule around the Mavs schedule if at all possible. I think for the 3rd or 4th year in a row, the Memphis game is the same night as a Mavs home game. Just like with football, if the team one day is competitive and winning against big name programs then people will come out to Moody...or at least have a decision to make between the Mavs and SMU. But right now it's apples and oranges...
Re: Mavericks to Use S.M.U. Practice FacilitiesThis is an excellent thing for both of our programs. It showcases our great facility. There will be all kinds of media at Crum (electronic and print) to cover the practices. Rick Carlisle had nothing but positive things to say about Crum last year. It's a nice bullet point for Doh and Rhonda to tell recruits that the Mavs practice there, and they love it. It also helps to get the word out around the NBA that Crum is a wonderful place for visiting teams to practice. Heck, Cleveland was there early last year and LeBron watched a volleyball game for a little while. There were a minimum of 5 or 6 teams that practiced there last year.
Re: Mavericks to Use S.M.U. Practice FacilitiesO.K. Thanks.

Re: Mavericks to Use S.M.U. Practice FacilitiesWay to go MrMustang65....they beat you up I guess...yeah its a real good thing for the recruits as they don't get this down in College Station or out in Lubbuck to rub bows with the pros..its pretty exciting for both the girls and the boys you can bet.....
Re: Mavericks to Use S.M.U. Practice Facilities
Don't think anyone was trying to beat you up. Just saying that this is great exposure for SMU and everyone (coaches, players, recruits, fans) should be excited that we have these top notch facilities that attract pro teams. Of course the hope is that this exposure turns into success on the recruiting trail...
Re: Mavericks to Use S.M.U. Practice FacilitiesOh I think it was a pretty stupid comment
"With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris
When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
Re: Mavericks to Use S.M.U. Practice Facilitiesi care more about having an open run policy at Crum, for the pro's, SMU players, and elite recruits in the summer. It's great for the Mustangs, builds community, helps recruiting. Having the Mavs use the facility is good business. Not only does Crum get press, I imagine it's being rented for a nice fee. My only concern is if it restricts SMU player access to the facility during that stretch
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.â€- Jalen Jones
Re: Mavericks to Use S.M.U. Practice FacilitiesHey, if I'm wrong I'll admit it. I never said anyone was 'beating me up'. To those who replied constructively, thanks.
Re: Mavericks to Use S.M.U. Practice Facilitiesi truly don't think it matters either way...we r going to attract recruits b/c the mavs practice there?
i dont' think so..
Re: Mavericks to Use S.M.U. Practice FacilitiesThankful we have a facility that is nice enough that the Mavs and other teams want to use it.
Before getting on PF, I just got an email from a big bball fan and major season ticket holder for Mavs who ribbed me by saying "SMU has a bball team?". It was nice to Let him know that his mavs are using SMUs facility.

Re: Mavericks to Use S.M.U. Practice FacilitiesWant to see the Mavs do well, but prefer going to SMU game.
Re: Mavericks to Use S.M.U. Practice FacilitiesLove Cuban as an owner, not loving the nulook Mavs. Of course, I hate all things Jason Kidd. I just wish Jim Jackson made Kidd watch as he boinked Toni Braxton.
