Hey, why should I have to go to a petting zoo just to see a little kiddie horse when I can come to an SMU football game and see one as our mascot. Keep Peruna!

No one at SMU ever thinks to enhance our current traditions. They just trample over the existing ones.

A full-size horse won't work. Don't understand the need for it, except that apparently a large portion of the fan base has no clue about the tradition behind Peruna.

If SMU made a bigger deal about Peruna and talked up the legendary tales surrounding this feisty beast, no one would feel insecure about having a smaller mascot.

Uga is a just a slobbering little bulldog who doesn't do much, but you don't see Georgia fans whining and asking for a pit bull instead.

The Sooner Schooner is pulled by shetland ponies - Boomer and Sooner. You don't hear any OU fans complaining that their horses as smaller than Texas Tech's or USC's.

It's not the size of the mascot in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the mascot. Anyone who knows the history of Peruna, or has talked to a handler, knows that pony has more fight than any "full-size" mascot.

University of Florida to get new Mascot

Gainesville, FL - Athletic department staff at UF have decided to add a secondary mascot to the sidelines of all gator football games. A 22 foot tall Tyrannosaurus Rex will parade around to rally the crowd and team to even more victories. "We decided that the guy in the Albert costume was just too 'cute' and it was time to have a more strong and powerful reptile representing the team and school!" said Mike Johnson, a Florida State University alumnus who has been working at UF for three weeks. "Besides," Mike added, "Rex Grossman played here... T-Rex...get it...no?" The AD spokesman claims that the dinosaur will not replace Albert, but will add to the overall cluster of "stuff going on besides the game".

Legendary Filmmaker Steven Spielberg will be on hand to present the animal to the University. After making Jurassic Park, he realized that dinosaurs are "really cool, and what better way to show it, than to find a school I didn't go to and start donating animals, right?"

There are currently talks of adding a third and fourth mascot to the UF sideline in the near future.

So many things wrong here....Just because someone is going to cut a check, don't bend over backwards for them, compromise...set up an area on the Blvd or something.....

You want dumb, how about promoting a wild horse sanctuary by having a captured, broken, drugged up horse on the sidelines.....

And for those wondering about whether or not there will be a rider....of course the hell there will be...unless you put him in a stable you just cant have him standing there being held..too easy to break free..this will have to be a well trained horse with a rider on his back to control him...just like a police horse.

So just throw a cape and a mask on our rider, and we have become Texas Tech......

Does a 70-year college tradition mean nothing to you people. Someone please explain to me (and I am being serious) how will ditching a 70-year college football tradition help us win more football games. Hate to break it to ya, but the mascot is not the problem[/quote]
