Virginia has gained its fifth men's basketball commitment for the class of 2010: forward Akil Mitchell.

Mitchell, a 6-foot-7, 210-pounder from Charlotte Christian (N.C.) School, also considered scholarship offers from George Washington and Southern Methodist.

James Madison, Liberty, Mercer and Winthrop also offered him, and Navy, Yale and Princeton all wanted him to play for their programs.

He'll join a recruiting class at U.Va. that includes guards K.T. Harrell from Montgomery, Ala. and Joe Harris from Chelan, Wash., and forwards James Johnson from Wildomar, Calif. and Will Regan from Buffalo, N.Y.

Looks like Doh is recruiting with the thought that he won't be here after next year. Keeps losing good recruits or is doing very poor job of recruiting them.

He'll save himself with the following
1. .500 record
2. Top 6 finish in CUSA
3. Win the first round of the postseason tournament.
4. And stop acting like a complete jerk around his players since he has no skins on the wall here.

Miss one of those and the new search should begin.

we don't have a ton of ships in '10, best use them wisely. Mitchell is a good player, that gave us serious consideration, and may have come here, if not for the last second UVA ride. We're involved on a legit level, w/very good players this year. Just need to land a few. People on these boards are clamoring for signings, so much so, that they're suggesting we grab kids the staff doesn't even deem worthy of scholarships. I'd rather show some patience, then cry in november if we've struck out. The only kid that we've truly struck out on was Clarkson.
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.”- Jalen Jones
