There has to be a rider, I agree, you just can't have a horse loose on the sideline being held by handlers..you would need a rider to control him/her. Which would probably mean some sort of Cowboy Gear, probably will look really embarassing.

Only way this can be saved in my eyes is if we add some comedy...Yes we know having a big horse with rider is stupid, but we needed the check.....

I say we have a student rider in khaki shorts, flip flops, button down polo with blue and red striped tie and a Duke baseball cap backwards, holding a USC koozy...he rides the horse and leads the team on the field..then leads them off at halftime..never to appear from the tunnel in the second half again.....

I am sure the rider will have the same attire as the rider SMU had in the 60's. They said at the press conference that they are bringing back the squires also.

Yeah. On the condition that they can leave at halftime. Will there be any students at all in the stands? 40 cheerleaders, 20 dancers, 10 Squires. That just about takes in any "crowd" in the student section.

as a city slicker I ask, If you ride a mustang than it is no longer a mustang, isn't that correct?

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/mustang

mus·tang (mŭs'tāng')
n. A small, hardy wild horse of the North American plains, descended from Arabian horses brought to America by Spanish explorers

you got it..thats why the whole thing is so rediculous....a full sized trained horse rescued from the Glue Factory is no more a Mustang than Peruna is...at leat Peruna has attitude and represents tradition.

We can make the exception of the symantics if the rider, she, is in all leather.

Or Madeline can do the mounting in her poolside gear.

Great. The [deleted] ringing the bell in the endzone a few years ago are back once again.

Bagice what do you really care as real Mustangs represent tradition by going to the Football games and supporting the Stangs and not leading a charge to boycott the games?

I think they said that the squires were the handlers for the horse. At least they said that what they did back then.

I care plenty....part of the appeal of being an SMU fan and supporter was our traditions and this is a big one. If you check my post history, you can see that I was never a fan of the June Jones hire, in my opinion too much money for a has been....the run and shoot is nothing more than an inferior version of the spread offense..it was innovative in the 80s...today it has been passed by.

I was all for giving June the benefit of the doubt..then he abandons Willis as the starter for his lil buddy BLM that followed him to SMU, he then posts a 1-11 season...Yes, we are 2-1 but could just as easily be 0-3, 3-0, or 1-2...all three games against questionable opponents have been close, could have went either way.

Now June says he is sticking with BLM, no matter how many games he costs us or how many picks he throws.....heres a novel idea for teaching him not to throw picks...when he does throw one, put his [deleted] on the sideline with the clipboard...maybe then he will learn to be less wreckless...

Now June wants a big horse, so we get a big horse...remember June wanted that embarrassing "Pony Up" fiasco last year also..how did that work..

I have already sent my letter voicing my displeasure and cancelling my annual donations.

Fair enough Bagice.....you are a man of your convictions...we disagree but that what this is all about. I think we are all way too quick to jump off when things haven't gone exactly how we would like and we all take such a personal interest in our U, but JJ is a proven entity and if major donors want to pay him by their own monetary contributions, than so be it as the pressure is all on him.....the Pony Up deal wasn't all his doing and it was tried and it was a failure we all have to admit. The new grass roots approach is more real and JJ talked about doing that last year as Kevin Kaplan heads up JJ's foundation and is the experienced guru of this type of marketing ( at UNLV,Tulane and others) for 'putting butts in seats' and and should have been on this last year but didn't have the necessary time to implement.
Hey I hope you rethink your position and come back on board as we all need your energy and past spirit...hope you get back on board.
