Dalton "No Fumble" Call

Postby Pony in SA » Sat Oct 03, 2009 10:37 pm

Can anyone who had the Mtn. channel post the video of the overturned fumble call that took so long ?

I just got a call from someone there at the game who said the TCU fans around them even said he got shafted on that one. Was it that bad ? Was it Mtn. West crew or a C-USA cres ?

I watched the Mtn broadcast. Knee was clearly down. Only surprise was thatthe review took so long. Don't know how anyone could see the replay and think we were "shafted"

Thanks for the info. Do you know where the crew was from ? Wouldn't surprise me if C-USA crew and that is why it took so long.

When it took as long as it did I figured it was overturned and they were trying to figure out where to spot the ball.

I think the call that Dalton was down was the right one.

What confused me was, on the play, Moore kept looking back at the TCU player chasing him down. I understand checking once to see if anyone was in reach of you, but once you see him...turn around and run! He kept looking back at the player who tackled him at the 2 yard line. If he faces forward and runs, he scores easily.

I watched the game also, and I think they got the call right, but I'm not sure there was enough evidence to actually overturn it. You could see the knee was down but the ball was kind of under his body and I didn't think you could tell for sure that he had it. At least the 2 or 3 views they showed. There might have been more in the booth. Just my opinion. Who knows. But I do think they got the call right in the end which I guess (unfortunately) is important.

C-USA no longer has its own crews. We are now in some sort of consortium with the Big XII and Mountain West, and share officials with those conferences.

In the press box, the general opinion was that if it took that long to review, the evidence couldn't have been conclusive (although, admittedly, we didn't have access to the same replay film the officials did, so who knows?)

I was impressed by the play Fleps made there. He was out in no man's land with the QB, didn't buy the fake and made a heck of a play.

I couldn't see Dalton's knee, of course, because my glasses were covered with rain. I think think they still are.

probably not sure but the extra time was caused by having to locate the yard line where the the player was down and the amount of time to put back on the clock. At least 3 different calls which caused the delay. From the naked eye I'm certainly not surprised it was overturned.

I watched the game on the mountian west network....the whole key here is that the call on the field was a fumble. I dont know if there was CONCLUSIVE evidence to overturn the call...with that being said you see Daltons knee is down and he is holding the ball with one hand..you just cant really tell if he has control of the ball or if it is on its way out.It looks like he may have control of the ball when his knee hits down...but from the replays shown on TV, i dont think you can say it is 100% conclusive in order to overturn the call.

Was it me or what the spot of the ball after the reversal something like 10 yards off? I felt like I was watching the fumble turning my head to the right and they were starting with the ball back again to my left. I'm not trying to imply that this game was "cooked", just that the communication between the field and the booth was not good. Those guys didn't have it together.

Maybe it is something in the Katy, Texas water, but I really thought Dalton played a [deleted] game and I am not impressed...

I don't think he is any better than BLM, just a much different and more supported offense...

i agree. you can't conclusively say Dalton had possession of the ball before his knee goes down.

One angle CLEARLY shows the knee down & the ball separated from his body. it appears he has control of the ball with one hand but there's no way of telling...no way there's enough evidence to overturn the call

We are beginning to sound like Arkansas. Let's man up and admit defeat. We need to position ourselves to win in a manner that one bad call will not defeat us. And I am not saying it was a bad call, but on the radio it clearly looked like a fumble.
