Sorry,

I was not, am not, and probably never will be impressed with June's college coaching career...his overall record is not even that impressive, I still stick to my claim that his "perfect season" in Hawaii had just as much to do with a weak non conference schedule, a down year in the WAC ( a pretty weak conference to begin with)...Also they were exposed as having no business in a BCS bowl...whereas Boise and Utah won their games.

Back in the day his NFL connections and wide open offense may have been able to snag some recruits, but now everyone is running a spread offense and his version seems dated and not as effective. Plus, several of the players he got at Hawaii could never attend SMU....Success in Hawaii does not equal success at SMU....

For that kind of money, give me Todd Graham or Art Briles...two guys with strong ties to Texas that know how to recruit....

Believe me, I hope June turns this around, but the idea that he is above reproach and we should just trust him because he knows best is not gonna fly with me......Now he is pushing to get a big horse...no thanks...

Ok Ok......got ya...I still disagree as we have a similar Mid Major conference and will always have a similar schedule with not so many big name schoools as Hawaii did but SMU has MUCH better facilities, location, backers, etc so they will make this happen. But stay tuned I guess.....

The year before June went 12-0, his Hawaii team won 11 games, I guess it was another bad year for every other team that played Hawaii. You are a loser.

Heh, call me a loser if you want but the only record we should care about is JJs record at SMU...which against FBS schools sits at 1 win and 11 losses...with the one win coming against a team that had multiple TOs, including an unforced INT in the endzone, and a Missed extra point...they scored just as many TDs as we did....

at SMU at least, June is looking like a loser to me

I don't have the same bee-in-my-bonnet that bagice and GSP have about Coach Jones or the Run & Shoot. If you have good personnel (read: linemen, among others), then any system will perform.

However, I said this in another thread, and it holds true for me here...IMHO, where SMU football AND basketball are concerned, the urgent has become the enemy of the important.

I believe a coach should adjust his system to his personnel. I have seen that some with Coach Jones, but none at all with Doherty. THAT, to me, is real coaching. However, these are team sports...do you recall ever hearing that coach/dad saying that there is no "I" in team? Well, I would respectfully submit that a "coach's system at all costs" is all about the "I", not the team.

Every football/basketball coach and AD in the past 10 years has made statements about needing the change the "culture of losing" or the "losing mindset". There is only one way to do that: win more than lose.

You know what I'm saying?

Doherty is a complete other story and this year is his Waterloo.......they are his recruits and his fully equiped Crum Center...if he can't make significant progress this year he should be gone....and probably needs to be...the new assistant coaches will help alot but is it too late? (why he kept M Farmer for so long completly escapes me as he didn't bring anything to the party)...we will see.....will his players really play for him is the question.

All this talk about JJ is so folly until his system is installed and operational.....we will see on that as well...

Good Luck to the Stangs tonight....

In the 60s, I guess we had lil horse, Peruna, and a big horse. Don't remember the big
horse as a kid, just the fast little one halfway dragging his runners across the field
leading the team onto the field, and after TDs.

Better keep the lil horse, because he's fast, different, and signature TRADITIONAL!!
Keep big horse on the opposite corner of the stadium, or donate him to Tech. That's
what THEY do!!!

Besides little Peruna is fast, and you can't coach against speed!!
May the forth be with us.

Was Peruna at the Michigan game in the Big House that got Lee Iacccoca so juiced up that he named a car after our football team?
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Ok the TCUseless game is over...time to start throwing rocks at each other over Peruna!

BTW, the two new geldings may just be the symbol of our new team.

I think we are all way too quick to jump off when things haven't gone exactly how we would like and we all take such a personal interest in our U, but JJ is a proven entity and if major donors want to pay him by their own monetary contributions, than so be it as the pressure is all on him.....the Pony Up deal wasn't all his doing and it was tried and it was a failure we all have to admit. The new grass roots approach is more real and JJ talked about doing that last year as Kevin Kaplan heads up JJ's foundation and is the experienced guru of this type of marketing ( at UNLV,Tulane and others) for 'putting butts in seats' and and should have been on this last year but didn't have the necessary time to implement.

We get it, Gomer.

Since SMU has made a joke of this mascot issue, why not have a joke of a Cowboy in Cowboy Curtis lead the way on our new gelding?
