What a paradox we are

Postby RGV Pony » Sat Oct 03, 2009 11:31 pm

With JJ, our MO is supposed to be a high-flying, run and gun, light up the scoreboard 'O'. We have a kicka$$ RB who transferred from Miami, who along with AR make up the two fastest Mustangs since the DP, and Emmanuel Sanders who really will be 'playing on Sundays.' And with all that, what do we get? A team where our D is the strong suit, that leads the nation in takeaways, and we struggle.

Looked like we were playing scared on 'O'. Most encouraging thing I saw, besides a couple of things by Shawnbrey and a catch or two by ES, was Klemm grabbing some facemasks after our OL meltdowns early.

Gansz, we miss ya.

Crowd: awesome. Great contingent we brought. Someone bring us a damn QB, please.

Did anyone listen to JJ's postgame radio interview? I know he's laid back, and I'm a JJ fan, but sometimes he just sounds flippant. Did I mis-hear, or did he actually say "the weather wasnt good enough to win"?

I thought the O line was way good against some tough dudes....BLM for the most part had time...he is not good at decision making and should be pulled now....I am now on board....I am soaking wet and totally off on the Ginslinger....Go back to Katy....

Ironic that we have an offensive "guru" for a head coach, yet we would most likely be winless if not for the defensive effort all season. Those guys played their guts out but you can't expect them to defend half a field or less darn near all night.

Couldn't agree more with everything you said. I had this exact same conversation while sitting at the game. We're supposed to be competing in these high scoring shootouts week in and week out, but instead our defense has carried this team. It is nice to see an improved D, but when you know it's all about offense with JJ, it is very unsettling to see this struggle week in and week out.

Despite another disappointing performance and the weather, it was nice to take in a college football game with a great crowd and a solid game presentation! Hopefully next Saturday Ford more closely resembles this atmosphere instead of the disaster from week 1.

Here's the paradox. Our QB sucks. Bo Mitchell is way too mistake prone. Everytime he throws the ball, a disaster seems imminent. I personally saw blm throw the football RIGHT into the hands of a tcu defender as if he was a wide open smu reciever in this game. It was so ridiculous that it almost seemed intentional.

You can't overcome mistakes (turnovers) like that. Is it really necessary to throw the ball every damn down? Especially when your starting QB is so erratic?

This is a 2-2 team going nowhere, unless there is a change at QB. This system might just work if we can get a real QB under center. I've had it with the status quo. There needs to be a shake up.

That INT might have been more ridiculous than the pick 6 he threw to the TCU DE last year...on a shovel pass! Watching that play develop, I thought he was actually going to make the right play and throw it out of bounds. Nope! (I wonder if he's coached to throw it out of bounds? Somehow, I don't think so).

Again, their needs to be a change at the QB position. NOW.

we had a NEGATIVE 16 yards rushing-quit with the ridiculous compliments of this offensive line. They were dominated. Has SMU ever had two straight years when their opponents held them to negative yards rushing. SMU's Offensive Line was pathetic.

It was a great SMU crowd -- better than we've seen at ACS in years. Your normal showing in Fort Worth is about 200-500. Tonight, probably more like 800-1,000. Especially impressive considering that it was a sloppy rain game.

The TCU fans also turned out in droves. Total attendance = a little over 37,000. I think in fair weather, it would have topped 40,000.

TCU defense did dominate the LOS pretty much the entire game. Where SMU has measurably improved since last year is not on offense, but on defense. Last year, your linebackers and corners were pretty much stationary on TCU running plays. But last night, they were swarming to the ball and very quick. As a TCU fan, it was frustrating to watch.

You hit in on the head about this year's D. They swarm to the ball constantly, it's amazing how much of a difference that can make. Kudos to our D, sorry our QB sucks. Is it possible to regress as fast and dramatic as Bo has? At this rate he may be as good as he was in middle school by next game.
