ECU: last year vs this year

Postby RGV Pony » Sun Oct 04, 2009 9:34 pm

I'll admit to not following ECU at all. Can someone tell me if their entire team graduated, or if they imploded, or something to that effect over the last year? They were world beaters a year ago, and I'm having a hard time grasping how/why we're not a 2 TD+ underdog in this game.

Even if they lost a lot to graduation, they have a culture that is the polar opposite of our culture. They went from sucking to being good to beating Va Tech. Even if that's a down year for Va Tech, it's still a step above beating SFA.

Thanks in advance for those who will respond to this post and do my research for me.

Go Ponies.

Their QB has been there longer than Flanigan was at SMU I believe. About 12 years or something.

so I guess that means if we're breaking down the matchups position by position, we can scratch QB off the list

They would have the edge at QB if they ran a wildcat

This is Patrick Pinkney's 6th year at ECU. Before he was there, James Pinkney (no relation, but a very similar player) was their QB.

I just know they gave UNC a run for their money. That's all the street cred they need for me to be worried.

They kept UNC close but that was more of a commentary on how bad UNC is. Look at the Tar Heels season - barely won vs. UConn. Lost to Virginia 16-3. UNC is maybe the 60th best team in the country, ECU is more like around #80 and we match up well against them.

They don't win pretty-either does TCU but they have most of their defensive players back and they are just about the only team in CUSA that has a defense. In the last 9 CUSA games they have surrendered:

Marshall 17
UCF 14
Tulsa 24
UTEP 21
UAB 17
Southern Miss 21
Marshall 16
UCF 10
Memphis 10

See the key-almost all those teams were held considerably below their Offensive averages. Damn you can win a bunch of games in this conference with that kind of defense. I've seen them play most of 3 games so far this season and they have outstanding athletes on Defense for CUSA

With that kind of tough defense lets hope the weather cooperates as we don't need another wet game like TCU or like Navy last year for that matter.....the chance of rain is called for through at least Wednesday this week....

I was considering driving up for the game. But now that I read that I decided to just go fishing this weekend.
