That would be pretty awful news, but would rather see him live a long, healthy life than to risk further injury. Great Mustang, great kid. Wishing him all the best.

Did he have another concussion after the hit against TCU? I hope everything works out for him. One of my favorite players. I have always thought he plays hard.

Yes, if you know the story behind the photo it's classic.

What a great Mustang and kid! Hopefully he exemplify's the type of hard hitting Stangs of now and into the future....I wish him and his family all the best with his education here at SMU and more importantly, his health.

Maybe the toughest guy on the team. One of the smallest guys on the team, and absolutely fearless and extremely tough.

Above all else, take care of your health, Derrius, and get your degree. If we ever see you play again, that will be a bonus for all of us who have enjoyed watching you and cheering for you. Now we're cheering for you again, whether or not you ever suit up again. Best of luck.

The Hillcrest Panther Pride lives on on The Hilltop! All of the Hillcrest faithful have been watching Derrius' career at SMU with great anticipation. While we're saddened to hear that his football career may be over we're extremely proud of the way he has represented Hillcrest High School on The Hilltop. Foremost, his health is the TOP PRIORITY! Get that degree from SMU! You will always be a Panther and a Mustang to all of us at Hillcrest High School.

It is just like I said in an earlier post before the TCU game, if Bell had headaches and dizziness for a week after the first concussion, he should not have played Saturday. His football career is probably over with. My hat is off to him. These concussions and spinal cord injuries would probably diminish if face masks were eliminated and people were taught to tackle with their shoulders and not heads, like it was before 1955.
