Wow, I did not know we have already had 6 stallions and 2 mares as mascots.

After looking at those pics.....during Peruna 2's reign I would doubt we were the 'Best Dressed Band in the Land'....

SMU86 I probably would not have allowed it and I am honestly worried about the fate of Peruna, but I guess it's really out of our hands and we'll just have to wait and see how the new horse is used. Maybe it will all turn out ok. I suppose once the new horse is introduced he becomes a part of the "Mustang family" and we'll just have to accept him as Peruna's bigger brother. I certainly will not be booing as some are threatening to do when he is introduced to his new home at the SMU/Navy game.

You obviously are showing your lack of knowledge of SMU tradition. Just like wanting to throw Peruna under the bus because you don't care about tradition, you make some stupid comment about the other great tradition of SMU - The Mustang Band.

For your edification:

The "Best Dressed Band in the Land' moniker occurred under the Great Irving D. Dreibrodt's leadership 1958-1983.

Also during 1930's the M Band was known coast to coast and played on the NBC radio network. In 1938, the M Band was named the "Best Collegiate Band in the United States" by the Hearst Newspapers.

Vince Lombardi even mentioned the M Band in his autobiography.

So before you take some cheap shot, you might want to find out the truth.

Actually he did not mc pigskin in the early 80's. The M Band was on NBC on a Bob Hope Special which was filmed in Moody Coliseum.

My apologies. I was so distracted by Morgan Fairchild, I forgot where the band was playing.

Wow — a little harsh, don't you think? What's your issue with the Sports Information Department? You know, don't you, that they write press releases about all sorts of decisions, but that it's not their office that makes these decision, right?

It's called therapy. Look into it.

Would you care to enlighten us as to why? You called Peruna a mistake on another thread.

Is this kneejerk or do you have something of merit to offer?

You guys are listing reasons as to why the new horses aren't "Real" Mustangs. My point is that the 2 new horses are closer to "Real" Mustangs than Peruna was or will ever become.

It may sound trivial but psychologically mascots, uniforms, music, fan noise etc. does affect play on the field. It doesn't trump pure talent but it does affect all involved.

If you watched that video, JJ said "My players want to come out behind a real Mustang". I've also heard from former players who thought Peruna was ridiculous.

What I want to know is if T. Boone is going to make us plant windmills in front of Dallas Hall next. Or maybe attach tiny windmills to Peruna...
